4 Types of Furnaces
The cooling of an air conditioning unit
features a variety of components that are equally as important to provide the
desired results. When heating, there is no component more important than a
furnace. A properly working furnace that matches the structure of your house is
an essential part of your home, especially when the cold weather of winter
arrives. Here are four types of furnaces you can find to warm your home that
might require AC furnace repair in Pittsburgh, PA.
Central Warm-Air Furnace
There are two different ways in which warm
air can be circulated through a building, by force or by gravity. A central
warm-air furnace uses a fan that pushes the warm air produced through the vents
and into the different rooms of the home. Rather than a heat pump being
included with this type of furnace, a central combustor or resistance unit
provides the warmed air by gas, fuel, or electricity.
Steam or Hot Water
While some systems heat up air and send
them through vents to heat a building, others use steam or hot water in a
continuous heating system as it circulates. In this system, the furnace sends
the air to radiators, convectors, or pipes that will heat the air and send it
around the building. The heating can be done with the use of conventional
radiators, baseboard radiators, convectors, or heating pipes located inside of
walls or the ceiling, depending on how the building was constructed. Some will
send steam to create the heat while others will use hot water located in pipes.
Heat Pump
A common way to provide easy heating is a
heat pump. This is usually provided with the air conditioning unit, using
similar components it takes to cool a home. In this type of system,
refrigeration equipment is provided that can provide hot and cold air to spread
throughout the building. A compressor sends the air through air ducts
throughout the building, with the occupant determining the temperature with the
use of a thermostat.
Pipeless Furnace
Many furnaces are located as a part of a
system, in which the air is heated and then spread throughout the building from
a single location. A quicker way to provide heat to a room is to have the
furnace nearby. A furnace that excludes pipes will be located in the floor or
walls of the room and will immediately provide the heat directly into that
specific room.
Whether you are designing a home or the
furnace in yours has stopped working properly, you may be in need of a new one.
