by Jack Snap Writer
A saying that dogs and cats can’t live together is definitely not true. You can have a pet dog and cat under your roof, not just tolerating each other, but also enjoying interacting and being part of one family. But, for this, there is some preparation that needs to be taken into consideration.

If you own a cat and dog and they are not getting along, you can take the help of dog cat training guide to ensure your pets grow to love each other. Now, I’m going to share some tips to make a dog and cat become friends:

  1. Obedience Training
A problem between dogs and cats are usually caused by dogs. This is because the dog has a higher instinct and they will instinctively go chase after small and fluffy animals like rabbits and cats. Due to this reason, cats do fear dogs. There is one way to scrub this unwanted behavior through obedience training. Through this training teach your dog basic commands like sit, stay and down. These commands will also help you to handle your dog more easily during the interaction between dog and your new pet cat. It also improves your communication with the dog and develops a trust bond between the two of you.

  2. Allow Interaction Only Under Your Supervision
You should allow interaction between your dog and cat only under your supervision especially the first weeks after your dog and cat have just met. It protects both your dog and cat. When you leave alone your pets then they may become aggressive and end up hurting each other.

  3. Swap Scents
Human depends primarily on vision, but animals like dogs and cats use both its smell and sight to assess their surroundings. And letting your dog and cat recognize and accept each other’s scents is an important process that they have to go through. For this, there are some tricks to get them used to each other’s scents quickly. You can swap their bedding, or simply rub your towel on your dog and place it next to your cat, and vice versa.

  4. Let Your Cat Go
During the meeting with your dog, if your cats tend to run away, let it be. It means your cat is not ready for an interaction with the dog. Give your cat more time and don’t try to force an interaction between your cat and dog as this could lead to a negative outcome.

Conclusion:
Animals with past experience often adjust well and quickly to a new pet in the house, but if the introduction doesn’t go well; seek help from a professional trainer and a dog cat training guide as well. Don’t ever use punishment, it won’t help and it could make matter much worse.
