4 Tips for Maintaining a Gas Fireplace

by Robert Morgan airzonehvac

As the seasons change, the weather warms up, and your fireplace goes dormant. So until it's autumn, now is the ideal time to do the regular maintenance of your gas fireplace. Servicing your gas fireplaces in Ottawa ensures its efficiency, safety, and longevity.

But before you start with servicing, here are few things that you need to make sure of:

1 - Completely turn off the fireplace, including the pilot light.

2 - Allow enough time for the fireplace to cool down.

3 - Wear safety glasses and gloves.

4 - Keep your Regency manual on hand if you need to clean, remove, or repair something.

Now let's finally start with our quick four tips for Gas Fireplace maintenance:

1 - Turn Off the Pilot Light

Make sure your unit's standing pilot light (which is always lit) is switched off. After this, you have to wait until the unit has cool down.

During the summer, you must switch off your pilot. Standing Pilot mode is an excellent method to save money on your gas bill each month!

2 - Clean the Glass

Remove the glass front as directed in your handbook and place it on a soft surface. Once removed, use a soft cloth and fireplace glass cleaner to clean both sides of the glass.

Note: It's important to use fireplace glass cleaner as traditional glass cleaners can leave chemical residues on the glass. It can also produce unpleasant odours. Furthermore, the damage can also be irreversible to the glass.

3 - Clean Louvers and Airflow

To remove dust, wipe off the louvers of the unit with a soft or microfiber cloth. With the same method, you can also clean the grime that has built up over the year.

If your device lacks louvers, physically examine the air chambers for any blockages or heavy dust accumulation.

4 - Clean and Inspect the Unit

Wipe off the exterior of the device with a wet cloth and check the paint. If the paint is peeling or bubbling in any area, it's a sign that the fireplace isn't working properly. For this, you'll need a professional gas fireplace installer to inspect.

When should you hire a Gas Fireplace Service?

The regularity with which you receive a gas fireplace service check is determined by how frequently you use the fireplace. As a result, you must service your fireplace by a qualified gas service provider at least once a year.

To sum it up

Now that you have learned the basic cleaning of your gas fireplace. You can cosy up and enjoy the warm feeling throughout the winters!
