4 reasons why DIY carpet cleaning is a strict no-no

by Eva Spenser Innovation

It is often due to misconceptions that people ruin their carpets or probably not clean them well as it should be. They think that hiring experts to clean carpets is expensive but what they forget is that carpets are the storehouse of a lot of dirt and contaminants. Name it and it is there. Dust, mould, dust mites, pet hair, food spills, dry skin and what not.

It isn’t a cakewalk when it comes to cleaning carpets and hiring a carpet cleaning vacuum cleaner isn’t sufficient. Firstly, you need to know how to use it, and secondly, it should be capable enough to remove every bit of dirt from your carpets. Not everyone can get hold of the right machines, and often the carpets get ruined.

Even though DIY is trendy, it isn’t something that goes with carpet cleaning. Here are a few mistakes that people make when they take carpet care and cleaning tasks to themselves.

Not cleaning up stains immediately

It could be a wine spill during a party or probably a food spill during dinner. Whatever it may be, there is the need to clean up the stain almost immediately. Dampening the area and blotting the stain with a paper towel lighten the stains to a great extent. Leaving the stain to be treated later when vacuum cleaners are used can leave a permanent mark.

Over dampening the carpet

When you dampen carpets, it is known to make the dust and other contaminants clayey, and that makes it easy to pull out the dirt. For those planning to DIY and not opt for help from experts on cleaning in Canberra, they often end up over wetting the carpet. This is known to cause damage to the entire carpet, and all its layers are affected. There is only the need to target the top layer, but unfortunately, things go wrong. The carpets shrink when dry and often lift itself from the floor by making the adhesives underneath dysfunctional. If water stays behind for long, there is an excessive growth of mildew and mould that makes indoor air contaminated.

Not removing furniture before carpet cleaning

There are times when people are lazy about removing furniture from its place when deep cleaning the carpet. Wetting the carpet around ten feet of the furniture often ends up in permanent stains. Colour from wooden furniture varnish or probably rust from metal furniture stays behind while making it impossible for them to get rid of. Sometimes tying plastic sheets around the legs before wetting the carpet helps but in most cases, it should be removed completely.

Not using the right vacuum cleaner

Experts for carpet steam cleaning in Canberra are known to own industrial quality vacuum cleaners that have a lot of suction force in them. It isn’t something that domestic vacuum cleaners have. Even if you hire a carpet cleaning vacuum cleaner, a good one would cost a lot. Vacuum cleaners that do not have a good suction aren’t of any use for your carpets especially when it is extremely dirty.
