4 Must-Have Pieces of Agricultural Equipment

by Kevin Smith Author
Working on a farm is hard work. Most farmers will start work before the sun comes up and often keep working long after the sun goes down. A normal day will include taking care of animals, checking on crops growing in the fields and making sure they have everything they need. Throughout the day, a farmer will often use a wide variety of agricultural equipment to complete tasks. Having the right equipment can make each task easier to accomplish and allow the farmer to be as efficient as possible. Here are just a few pieces of equipment that every farmer should have.
Tractor – This one may seem obvious, but a tractor is probably the most versatile piece of equipment on a farm. It can be easily customized with various attachments to complete whatever job is required.
Manure spreader – Fertilizing fields can be a long and difficult process. A manure spreader makes this job easier by doing the spreading for you. Load the manure into the spreader, connect it to your tractor, then drive around the field as its rotating mechanism spreads the fertilizer over the field.
Combine harvester – A combine harvester does the entire harvesting job for you. It reaps, threshes and winnows your crops. This means your harvest takes significantly less time and allows you to get more done.
Grain moisture tester – Once you’ve harvested the grain, you’ll need to keep it at a specific moisture content. A grain moisture tester allows you to quickly and easily test the moisture content of your grain. Many testers today will automatically compensate for the temperature of the grain. Knowing the moisture content will help you make sure you are storing your grain in such a way that it won’t be ruined in storage.

Working on a farm takes a lot of hard work and dedication to the task. It requires many hours and doesn’t provide for many days off. It’s a job that often requires a lot of sacrifice for the farmer and his family. However, it’s also a job that provides many rewards, such as the satisfaction of knowing that you are providing food for many families around the country. Having the right agricultural equipment on your farm can help to make the job a bit easier. It also helps to make you more efficient, allowing you to get more done in the same amount of time. Is your farm running as efficiently as possible?
