India is one of the countries that you cannot describe in one word.  It's fantastic, spiritual, and exciting at the same time. It’s a place that has a sample of many things, which is why many backpackers come to explore what India can offer. 

India is a massive place and is packed with all sorts of activities. So you really have to plan out everything before you venture. First, decide whether you prefer going on a tour or if you are brave enough to go alone. 

But for first timers, I highly suggest that you take a tour. There are many reputable operators you can choose from like Kosher River Cruise or heritage tours, or you can refer to the Indian Association of Tour Operators for more reliable options. 

You’ll never have enough time to see everything in one trip. Don’t be overwhelmed. Instead, think first about what interests you. Would you rather go alone or go with a tour? 

If you prefer solo traveling, do your research and read blogs to get an idea of the culture and practices and stick to your itinerary.

Pack a first aid kit including meds for your tummy and general antibiotics. Also, make sure your vaccinations are up to date and you have comprehensive health insurance. 

Traveling in big cities are easier with taxis. But if you’re traveling from airport to hotel, I highly recommend paying in prepaid counters. 

Another option is to hire a car and a driver, you’ll be surprised how cheap it is to get one. During the trip, traveling down the highway might take quite some time. So make sure that you allow extra time for commuting. 

For accommodations, you can spend as little as $2 per night or as high as $2,000 and more. But to get the best value, go for mid-range hotels. Boutiques are also a getting a lot of attention lately.
