4 Effective ways to clean your Brass Jewelry at Home

Take a magnet and hold it against your jewellery piece. If the magnet sticks to your jewellery then it is only brass plated. You can also check whether your jewellery is lacquered or non-lacquered for which all you need to do is look at the finish of your jewelry. If it protective finish then the jewellery is lacquered, otherwise, it is non-lacquered.

If your piece of artificial jewellery has lacquered finish then simply clean it with a damp cloth.

When you buy Brass artificial jewellery online, it comes with non-lacquered finish (mostly). To clean non-lacquered jewellery, follow the following hacks.

TIP: Most of these hacks use water in the process. Brass is prone to retain water, therefore, you have to be extra careful when you dry your jewelry afterward, otherwise water will affect artificial jewelry design.

Soap and warm water:

Mix a small amount of liquid dish soap or any gentle detergent with warm water. Dip your jewelry into the mixture and use your fingers/palm or a soft toothbrush to gently scrub the surface of your jewelry item. After the scrubbing, rinse the item thoroughly. 

Ketchup:

Take a small amount of ketchup and gently scrub the brass based artificial jewellery set with your fingers or a soft toothbrush. Once your scrub it, leave it for a minute and then rinse it well. You can repeat this method twice or thrice. Just make sure to dry it well after the cleaning.

Lemon:

Lemon can be used in two ways to clean the Brass based artificial jewellery.

·         Lemon Juice:

Squeeze half a lemon into a cup of water and then add a teaspoon of salt until dissolved and stir the mixture with a spoon. Place your jewelry in the mixture and remove it when it gets cleaned properly. Rinse the item and dry completely.

·         Salted Lemon:

Cut a lemon in half and sprinkle some salt on the open side of a lemon half (on the pulp) and rub it over the brass jewelry item.  Use your fingers or a soft toothbrush to clean the item. After the scrubbing wash and dry the brass jewelry item thoroughly.

Vinegar, Salt, and Flour

For this method, you need 1 teaspoon of salt, ½ cup of vinegar. Combine the salt and vinegar and mix well. Add flour until the mixture becomes a paste. Scrub the brass item with your hands or a soft toothbrush and leave it for around 8-10 minutes. Rinse your brass jewellery with warm water and dry thoroughly. Don’t forget to dry it thoroughly.
