4 Design Trends For Commercial Interiors

by Spaces Designed Hi, I am Komal Sheth - Founder of Spaces Designed

Why is it that so many homeowners seem to have fresh and unique ideas for their residential interior design, whereas commercial property owners appear to be stuck in the most preliminary phases of redecorating? Perhaps because there's only so much you can do with an office interior, right? Wrong! Matter of fact, there’s a lot you can do to make your commercial interior space more engaging and functional.

As you plan for a refreshed office design to spruce up your workplace, let these 2019 commercial interior design trends serve as an inspiration.

Vivid colors

For many years, stark white or grey hues have been the top color choices for commercial interior design in Austin, TX. They are, after all, the most ‘appropriate’ shades for a professional environment. Well, they’re not reigning supreme anymore! The trend of colorful walls is back in 2019. In keeping with the trend, try to add interest to your formally lackluster office interiors with bold or unexpected colors. If you want to paint the walls in your favorite shade of deep blue, go for it! On the other hand, if you don’t want anything too bold, you can also consider the Pantone’s 2019 Color of the year – a vibrant yet mellow shade of pink called, “Living Coral.” It’s perfect for building a lively, creative and productive space that still looks very corporate.

Green spaces

Elements of green space or biophilic designs have become a staple in commercial spaces this year (Amazon’s new headquarters in Seattle is more or less an indoor forest greenhouse!) and for good reasons. Not only do elements of green space look phenomenal, but they also aid employee engagement and increase workplace productivity. The easiest and most obvious way to embrace the design philosophy of “bringing the outdoors indoors” is by adding plants to space. You can use a succulent on work desks, place ferns and potted plants at every corner or have all the workspaces draped with vines and climbing plants. Sounds wonderful, doesn’t it?

Unexpected shapes

This year, commercial interior trends are all about embracing unique shapes. Get along with the trend and get down in favor of curves and waves for a trendy and contemporary interior space. Want something bold that commands attention? Sharp angles and elongated triangles are the way to go. You can even work with geometric patterns to add character to space. Unexpected shapes will undeniably make your office look and feel more interesting than ever before.

Comfort is the key

2018’s furnishing trends made a move towards sleek, contemporary design (something we loved), but furnishing trends in 2019 revolve around comfortable, livable spaces (something we love even more). Put a soft, fluffy rug over bare wooden floors for a cozy workplace atmosphere and ditch beautiful but thin and uncomfortable furniture in favor of the comfiest couch and the most relaxing chairs! While you’re at it, use accent tables or bookshelves to give your space a home-y feel.

Keep these trends in mind as you get down to planning your commercial interior design. With the help of a professional interior designer, you can brainstorm interior design ideas to let your organization's personality shine through, which will surely lead to an exceptional and inspiring space!
