4 Big Issues Facing College Education

by John Smith Learner

Education is constantly evolving in society. Governments and non-governmental organizations are involved in research that seeks to improve the quality of education. This is because there are many issues facing education. There are four main issues that most governments are concerned about. These issues are also important for students to understand because they affect them.

Completion rates

One of the top issues that college education is facing is a decline in the completion rate. Whilst there is a nearly perfect completion rate in secondary schools, colleges have many students drop out. There are two facets to examining this concern. The first one is the number of students who don’t join colleges after completing high school. The second is the number of students that drop out of college in the course of their studies. Of course, there are many issues surrounding this factor, which educationist look into.

Student mental health

There is a growing concern about the mental health being of students in colleges. Anxiety is a real problem amongst students in colleges. Whilst most students don’t show mental health issues publicly, they suffer in silence and some even consider harming themselves. Most universities and colleges are heavily investing in counseling services. You will find that schools have multiple counselors to meet the growing demand for this important service. Any college that does not invest in this aspect is slowly killing its body of students unknowingly.

College rankings

This is always an issue among colleges. The criteria for ranking colleges has always been questions with some students unsure if the rankings can be trusted. Most students do not rely on the rankings to make enrolment decisions. This is because the rankings might highlight issues that do not affect their studies. Therefore, students prefer to research their colleges independently before deciding on which one to join.

College accreditation

To get college funding, colleges must be accredited. It is always an issue because some students join colleges before confirming the accreditation status and end up missing on student loans. Some of the things that the accreditors look for include curricula, admission practices, facilities, equipment, and support services. Accreditation aims to ensure that the standards of education remain high in all colleges. In any course that you choose, always ensure that the college is accredited. Therefore, when looking for a Fire Inspector certification online, you should find the right college that is fully accredited.
