The machining nylon model is composed of white, extremely fine powder particles. The product has high strength and flexibility, and can withstand small impact forces and resistance to slight bending. The surface of the model has a matte, granular appearance with slight permeability. At present, Qile has multiple SLS3D printers. 2. Basic principles, recommendations and strategies
1) Wall thickness
For 3D printing, wall thickness refers to the distance between one surface of the model and its corresponding surface. The wall thickness will either make your wall firm and strong, or it will be flexible and deformable. To ensure the quality of the model, we recommend that the wall thickness be at least 1mm, otherwise the model is prone to holes and rotten faces during printing.
2) Model Shelling
Model shelling is to turn a solid model into a hollow model with a certain wall thickness. If possible, shell the model as much as possible, which will avoid deformation and stains during printing, and also save printing costs. We recommend that you make two small holes in the model to easily pour out the unsintered powder after printing. Imagine that the powder is flowing and find the most suitable place to design small holes that flow out of excess material.
3) Large planes can cause warping
3D Printing a large flat structure is a difficult idea to implement, and in most cases the model will deform. This process is called "warping." Even if you add stiffeners to the bottom of the flat surface, slowing down the printing speed and extending the cooling time will not solve the problem. The key is to avoid large planar structures when designing.
4) Clearance between moving parts
When you design the interlocking structure, the gap between the surface of the product is very critical, it will affect the flexibility and bending performance of the product. We recommend keeping the minimum clearance of the model surface at 0.5mm. If a larger clearance is allowed, the gap between the rings is closely related to your design size. For the large ring you can leave a lot of gaps, you can print more products in a limited space. For small rings, you must limit the space to ensure the horizontal and vertical distance between the rings.
When designing models that require assembly, it is important that the connected parts maintain sufficient clearance. The perfect assembly on the software does not mean that the actual product is the same, because the software does not take into account the friction in the real world, and thermal expansion and contraction. Therefore, different parts are combined with their use environment, leaving at least a 0.6mm distance between the parts, making assembly easier.
6) Concave and convex details
For concave text or surface details, we recommend that the line width of the text is at least 1mm, the depth is 1.5mm, and the overall height is at least 4.5mm. The raised text or surface details should be strong enough not to be damaged during printing or transportation. We recommend that the text line width is at least 0.8mm, the overall height is at least 3mm, and the raised height is at least 0.8mm.
