3 Tips for Designing Employee ID Cards

by Kevin Smith Author

Working with the right company to perform your digital plastic card printing services is very important when you’re in the healthcare field. Also important is knowing how to design your employees’ ID cards so that they look professional, are easy to read and scan, and contain the right information. Here are some tips for designing your employees’ plastic ID cards and badges.

Information on the Card

Your first consideration when designing ID cards for your employees is the information that each badge needs to contain. Plan to have a photo of the employee, their name, as well as the name of the company and your contact information in case the card is lost.

Leave Appropriate Space

One trend in employee IDs and badges that’s becoming more and more popular is having a unique scannable QR code for each employee. Barring that, you’d want to have a magnetic strip or a bar code to secure your building and ensure people don’t have access to your building that shouldn’t. if you’re including a magnetic strip, bar code, or a unique QR code on employee badges, work with a company that by default leaves room for these elements on their templates. This will make designing around these essential elements much easier for you.

Single or Double Sided

Depending on the information that you want to include on your badges, you can choose between single or double-sided cards. Perhaps having all of the most relevant information on the front and then on the back the legal information or your company’s contact information in case the card is found.

Legible Print

One mistake that many employers make when designing ID cards for employees is making the print too small to be easily read. The print needs to be large enough to be legible but not so large you don’t have room for all the information you need. You may also want to choose a sans serif font as they are usually easier to read and scan for information quickly.

While the design of your cards is important, it’s also necessary to work with the right company to print them for you. To start, look for a company that provides easy to use online software so that you can design your cards and orders them from one place. There are lots of reasons to take the digital plastic card printing needs at your business seriously. Your valuable employees are going to carry around their employee ID cards for hopefully many years and therefore they need to be timeless, professional and look great for years to come.
