3 Things to Think About When Buying Shower Curtains

by Kevin Smith Author

No shower bathtub combo is complete without shower curtains. They set your bathroom's theme and add the layer of privacy you need while taking a bath. Below are some things you need to consider so you'll find some that fit your style.

Material

Shower curtains come in a wide range of materials. Plastic is the most common, but you have more options than you think:

·       -> Polyester - This is the one you usually see, which means it's generally inexpensive. It comes in a lot of colors, patterns, and styles. Polyester is waterproof and non-flammable, unlike untreated fabric curtains.

·        ->Hemp - It's tightly woven, so water doesn't leak through. Hemp absorbs some of it, but it dries very quickly. It's also naturally resistant to bacteria and fungi. More importantly, it's biodegradable and free of plastic and toxins.

·        ->Linen - Like hemp, linen is biodegradable. You might need a liner for this, though, since it absorbs water. But because it's a natural material, it won't release toxic chemicals like other materials might.

Length and Width

How long do you want your curtains to be? Do you want them to reach to the floor or just your midsection? How wide do they have to be to cover your shower bathtub combo? These are questions you need to ask yourself before making a decision.

The standard shower curtain size is 72x72 inches, but there are also stall curtains (54x78 inches) or extra-long ones (72x84 inches) for bathrooms with high ceilings. If your tub's wider than usual, you can try extra wide (108x72 inches).

Color and Pattern

This is where your creativity comes in. Have a clear vision in mind. There are many styles to choose from, and it's easy to get overwhelmed if you don't know what you want. Take a look at the color of your walls and make sure your curtains won't clash with it.

There are also several patterns to choose from. Go to a local store and find some fun or interesting prints, such as flowers, birds, fish, stars, and abstract swirls. If your imagination can think it up, there's probably a print for it. Pick the perfect style for you.

Shower curtains help set the style and tone of your bathroom. They're going to be a critical component of your shower bathtub combo, giving you the privacy you need and reflecting your style and personality. Keep these tips in mind before you make your purchase.
