3 Reasons to Change All Tires at the Same Time
by Kevin Smith AuthorA common question when changing your tires is
whether you should have them all done at once, in pairs, or one at a time. In
some cases, changing one might not be a big issue, especially if the other
tires were recently changed. However, in most cases, you should change all four
at the same time. There are multiple reasons why this is recommended. Here are
three reasons why you should replace all four tires at the same time when you
need a car tire change.
Keep the Same Tread
One of the most important aspects of a car is
the traction of the tires. If you don’t have enough traction on your tires, the
car will slide around the road and you’re at a greater risk of an accident. The
four tires on a car work together to create the necessary traction to keep your
car safely on the road. If the tread on two of your tires are worn at a
different rate than the other two, it will negatively affect the traction that
you experience, making it more dangerous to drive.
Avoid Fishtailing or
Hydroplaning
If you buy two new front tires but decide to
keep your old tires on the back, it can create problems for your car. Your
front tires will have new tread and will gain the necessary traction to keep
your car on the road. However, the tread on your back tires will be more worn
which can create fishtailing or hydroplaning on the road. Basically, while
you’ll have traction in the front, the back of your car will be largely
uncontrollable. This could cause the back end of your car to swing off the
road, resulting in an accident.
Unbalanced Suspension
Ideally, you want all of your tires to wear
evenly. This is why it’s important to have your tires rotated regularly. If
your tires are not wearing evenly, it can cause problems for other parts of
your car, such as your shocks, bearings, and wheel assembly. Tires that are
worn more will be smaller than new tires. This means that you’ll be driving on
unbalanced tires which can create problems for your suspension system. While it
might not cause immediate danger, this will cause damage to your car’s parts
over time.
If you’re in need of a tire change, it’s usually
best to have all of the tires changed at the same time. While it might seem
more expensive to do this, it will ensure the safety of your car and allow you
to avoid wear on other parts. These are three reasons why you should change all
four tires simultaneously when you require a car tire change.
