3 Mistakes That You Must Avoid To Make the Best Use of Your Watch

by Akash Sharma Akash Sharma

Though the primary function of a wristwatch is to tell time, we also can’t deny the fact that it communicates a lot of things about the person who wears it. For a true gentleman or a lady, it is an extension of their personal style statement that they carry on their wrist.

A classic timepiece channels the ethos of your lifestyle and hence deserves to be taken seriously. We understand that sometimes you tend to overlook its maintenance because you are already spoilt for choice with the existing sprawling collection but that’s not a good excuse to not look after it.

Your wristwatches need as much care as any other part of your wardrobe and there are a few things you can do to give it a longer shelf life. Here are 5 mistakes you must avoid to take care of your beloved timekeepers.

1)      Improper Storage

Whether you had to buy watches online in India or meticulously selected it from a wristwatch store, make sure you have thoroughly gone through the instructions of how to store it. If you wish to make your timekeeper ticking for a longer time period, make sure it is rightly stored in a box provided by the vendor. Avoid making a quick transition to extremely hot or cold temperatures as it can dampen the mechanical functioning of the watch. A classic wristwatch should always be stored in appropriate room temperatures with no humidity or excessive dryness.

2)      Not being careful with water

Even if your timekeeper is water-resistant, that does not give you the leverage to be not careful. This specially stands true for men’s leather watches. Online and other trusted wrist-watch vendors specifically suggest keeping leather and other classic timekeepers away from water as much as possible. Water-resistant watches can only withstand water to a certain level.  If you are entering a chlorinated swimming pool or a hot Jacuzzi, chances are high that it would badly hamper mechanical functioning of the watch. If it is a valuable timepiece, save it for important events only.

3)      Improper Wind

Mechanical watches need winding but most often watch owners do not know how or how many times they should wind it. If you wind it too little then the watch won’t work and if you wind it too much then you can damage it. This is specifically the issue with older watches but modern watches already come with a built-in winding mechanism.

Avoiding these 3 mistakes shall help improve the longevity of your watch to a large extent.
