Let's talk about a little known Mac application that makes downloading from USENET a whole lot simpler. Let's face it, Apple Mac users are a bit left out at the moment, with many USENET providers offering free PC based USENET clients as part of their package. However, Automatic is a little software application which helps Mac users no end. Automatic is an automated 98% Success Review RSS downloader for USENET RSS feeds. So what is an RSS downloader? Basically this is a thin client which is used to download torrentcasts. A torrentcast is a feed of pushed USENET content, which when read by a torrentcast client (like Automatic), will be automatically downloaded when read. Put it this way, imagine you subscribed to a certain feed which dealt with episodes of your favourite program.

Next time a new episode is pushed the the RSS feed, Automatic would start to download it. How cool is that? Simply subscribe to feeds, sit back and have your downloads delivered! This technology was originally explored by PC users some time ago, but it never really caught on. However, the Mac crowd seem to love this and Automatic is a must have Mac USENET application these days.

Just why is Automatic so Useful though? Simple answer, it makes life easy. Once you have installed it, somply configure it and add your required feeds, and the software will automatically go and get your USENET downloads. Automatic also features a system for making sure duplicate episodes/content is not downloaded should something already pushed re-appear in the feed. Feeds can also be piped to specific folders, meaning you can download into named folders for each feed, so all of your TV episodes, music and movies end up in the right place ready to go. Overall, Automatic is an incredibly useful piece of software which transforms the way Mac users can access USENET. Just look at the difference here. PC users currently need to search for content, queue up a download, then wait for it to finish. With Automatic, Mac users simply configure it, sit back and wait for it to happen. How long before PC users sit up and take notice?
