2G Spectrum Scam Exposed

A very interesting and light-hearted look at the biggest scam in India.......

What happens when corrupt politicians, fraudulent businessmen and greedy government servants come together? It gives birth to a monster named "2G Spectrum Scam", the same monster which filled the treasures of these people in amounts, beyond we can imagine!

In the history of Indian politics, this is by far the biggest scam that has surfaced and the shortfall between the money collected and the money which the law mandated to be collected is estimated to be 1.76 lakh crore.

Here, the story unfolds!

Spectrum is the entire range of wavelengths of electromagnetic radiation.

85% of the Spectrum Bandwidth remains with the Defense, while the rest of the 15% is with the Telecom Ministry Department of the country. The government auctions out the rest of the bandwidth @ a set price to companies providing wireless services.

In 2001 India had about 4 million customers using mobile phones, which rose to 350 million customers by the end of 2008.

And here it begins...

As the number of customers grew, the appetite to mint money also grew among the greedy people. Instead of setting the base price of the licenses to 2008 level, they were set to 2001 level and as if this was not enough, the telecom ministry cancelled the auction process and the dates were changed to benefit the key players in first come first basis. As a result, money was the only thing which could be seen around these respectable people of our nation.

The super theft was going smooth.

But, things changed when corporate lobbyist working for a company name Public Relation Consultancy, Nira Radia's office was raided and the officials found black money and tapes revealing the names of the big corporates and media people out to the entire world. This is how the story turned into a scam, 2G Scam.

On the other end,Controller and Auditor General of India found out that there were questionable activities in the spectrum allocation and the tenders received. Moreover, the reverent leader of Rashstriya Janta Party, Mr. Subhramaniyam Swamy with the help of the "Right to Information" Act collected evidence against this team of fraudsters. After 2 months of undeterred struggle to streamline the ill sequences, the court finally announced the involvement of the important bodies like CBI, SIT, CAG and CVC into the case. Total of 11 agencies were involved in order to get complete report on the 2G Scam.

Finally, the Can of Worms opened up which lined all the names responsible for cheating their country through the biggest ever scam called 2G Scam.

Today, most of the people mentioned are out on bail ... which leads us to the most important questions; "Do you think Indians will ever get up and say, enough is enough, we will not take this anymore?" or "Will it be just another case where the wealthy and influential are left scot-free?" and "Was there any need for such rigorous investigation when those frauds were to be left open?"
