2019 Interior Design Trends for a Modern Living Room

by Emma L. Business consultant

A modern living room is simple, elegant, sophisticated and functional. These words are easier said than done, so how can you pull off that look in your home? Well, here are a few most prominent 2019 interior design trends that will spark your imagination and help you create a modern and stylish living room.

Deep green

It’s practically impossible to start a list like this without mentioning the Color of the Year first. If you ask PPG Paints, the color of 2019 will be wild and deep hunter green inspired by nature. Night Watch green as they called it is a great alternative to matte black that’s super popular today and it looks amazing when combined with metallic and high-shine elements and finishes. So, feel free to add some mystery and depth to your living room with this dark green.

Mid-century modern

Most interior trends come and go, but for some reason, mid-century modern is here to stay. It’s practically everywhere and we have a feeling that it will stay on trend forever! So, if you want to introduce a bit of this timeless style into your living room, why not start with smaller details like a classic Eames or Barcelona chair. Today, you can find these designer pieces everywhere from lux penthouses to lobbies and bars. They might be drastically different, but they will both never go out of style!

Multifunctional furniture

It’s not a secret that more and more people choose to live in cities where square footage is scarce, so designers are finally catching on to the idea of small, smart and multipurpose furniture. Pieces that can adapt to different rooms (but aren’t short of style) are perfect for all smaller apartments that wish to have some elbow space. Bigger houses that love minimalism will also jump on this opportunity. You can always look for a furniture sale where it is possible to find the ideal pieces at a fraction of the cost.  Another older trend that’s coming back is wall-mounted electronics, especially practical for smaller homes. This allows for more precious floor or shelf space and creates a clean and modern look. Just be careful with installation. It’s always better to call for professional help with mounting the TV on a wall because you don’t want any property damage, smashed flat screens or physical injuries. With pros, the installation process will be fast, safe and secure.

Fun terrazzo

This interesting material lost its popularity after the ‘60s, but for the last few years, it has been back bigger than ever. Thanks to its highly decorative look, it makes a big impact on every space. Originally made for flooring, you can expect to see terrazzo in many different uses. Especially in 2019, get ready for some fun terrazzo accent walls, terrazzo ceilings, terrazzo coffee tables and even terrazzo lamps!

Statement ceilings

The last time we saw any fun trends in ceiling design was in the ‘20s. Now, that was almost 100 years ago, so it’s high time ceilings got some attention. Luckily, expect to be thrilled when you look up in 2019 because you can see anything from ceiling murals and geometric patterns to ceiling molding and wood cladding (and anything in between). Paying attention to the ceiling is a perfect way to spice up a minimalist space, make a small room appear larger or turn any room into a memorable space. Really, accent ceiling is the new accent wall!

Star-struck décor

If you need some decoration help, you can also look up, but go beyond your ceiling and take to the stars. From subtle astronomy details to bolder zodiac inspired patterns, the universe will find a way to your home. Think planet sculptures, galactic surfaces and star-spangled ceilings. Celestial motifs will really make your living room look heavenly.

Eco-friendliness

Eco-friendly design is always welcomed and encouraged, especially now that we have an environmental crisis happening every once in a while. So, products and décor that’s easy on the eye AND on the environment will be here for a long time. Think anything from recomposed marble and reclaimed floors to living plant walls and energy-saving electronics. Basically, make your living room a space that will welcome everything that takes less from the planet and gives more back.

Are you ready for the New Year? When it comes to interior design and new trends, you’re definitely ready to start a new era and make your home a heaven of modernity, comfort and function.
