Thousands of new professions in the Canada NOC list have been created – with almost every industry in the Great White North, looking to hire skilled and unskilled professionals.

The process to apply for and get a Canadian work permit is quite complex. No doubt about that. But there are several jobs on the Canada NOC list that do not require a work permit. One less thing to worry about during the already daunting Canadian immigration process.

Let us have a look at a few such jobs in Canada you can work in, without a work permit.

Athletes and Team members

Athletes or coaches participating in a Canadian sport do not require a work permit. However, should your spouse/common-law partner choose to move with you, while you work in Canada – they require a work permit.

Civil Aviation Inspector

Immigrants working on international flights, entering Canada temporarily – can perform their job duties without a work permit. The Cabin and Flight operator crew must provide identification documents and positions.

Aviation Accident/Incident Inspector

If an aviation accident/incident needs the services of foreign immigrants for inspection, such professionals do not require a work permit in Canada.

Clergy

Immigrants whose work relates to religious events, preaching, or offering spiritual guidance, do not require a work permit. You would be asked to provide evidence beforehand, justifying that you provide such services.

Farm Workers

There are plenty of immigrants working on non-commercial farms in Canada as volunteers. If you hold such farming experience – you do not need a work permit. Farmers are usually on the Canada NOC list.

Healthcare Students

Candidates studying physical, medicine, occupational therapy, medical technology, or nursing can participate in practicums or clerkships without a Canadian work permit. However, they require written express permission from a credible/registered provincial regulatory body.

Foreign Government Officials

Such professions include consular officers, officials, diplomats, and representatives of other countries or an international organization in which Canada is a participant – do not need a work permit to enter Canada.

Military Personnel

Military officials serving any country named in the Canadian Visiting Forces Act are permitted to travel to Canada without work permits only with official instructions. Military personnel is another occupation usually on the Canada NOC list.

Journalists reporting on any Canadian event are exempted from work permit applications – provided that they do not work for a Canadian news organization during this event.

Judges, Referees, and Other Officials

There are situations where the service of a judge, referee, or such official may be required in Canada. They must be an official part of the said event.

Evaluators and Examiners

A professional academic immigrating to Canada to guide or mentor students is allowed to do so without applying for a Canadian work permit.

Crew

Crew members performing an operation on any type of international transport do not require a Canadian work permit to perform their job duties. The transportation mode must not be registered to or owned by a company in Canada.

Implied Status

Suppose you’re already working in Canada, but your work permit has expired, you can apply for a new work permit before the expiry of your previous permit.

International students are allowed to take up work on their respective school or college campuses without having to apply for a work permit in Canada.

International students studying in Canada can work for a maximum of 20 hours per week during a typical academic semester.
