So...I was going along my carrer with multi-pure for several years before I learned the secret of "branding" myself. Obviously most of you know me as "the water filter lady". but up until 6 months ago, I was really a "no name". I had my website purestdrinkingwater.com, but it wasnt really doing IT for me. so I read a few articles about branding yourself and came up with "The water filter Lady".
Anyway ... I found this site that explains a bit more about branding yourself.
"The main outcome of personal branding should be a clear, deep, and profound understanding of who you are and what you stand for, and what you want to be known for. It is not enough to be known for what you do ? you must be know for what you do different(ly). You do not merely want to be known as another player in a category. You want people to believe that you are the BEST (perhaps ONLY) solution to their problem." Read more here: http://www.garrreynolds.com/Branding/brandyou.html (i am not associated with this site)
My suggestion is to Brand yourself to what and who you are. come up with a name that suits you and is "catchy" that people will remember. Once you come up with that name, buy the domain name and attach it to your website. Next, get another e-mail address with the same name and build a blog site with the matching name in the title as well. Pretty soon, everyone will associate you with this brand that is you!
BE CREATIVE. ITS ALL ABOUT YOU AND WHO YOU ARE!
Bounce your idea's off of other marketers till you get a name that fits and suits YOU!

@Laura When that happens, I look for an additional word to work into it, for instance. If johnsmith.com is taken and you're into network marketing, you could try a domain like; meetjohnsmithonline.com. Or, johnsmithmarketing.com This way you can get the branding along with a good keyword which will generate traffic to your site.
Here's food for thought.
When you select a domain based on a program like for instance, Peoplestring, you run the risk of that domain being useless if the prog

Thanks for all your comments.. @Cheryl, I am wondering what the ppl stands for in front of your name. I always relate you to "Purple Cheryl" when I think of you. (the survivor tv show had two girls with the same name, so they called one of them Purple Kelly)...So now, i just went and looked at your profile, And I figured it out!! I now know what PPL stands for in your name. Lets play a game and see how many others can figure out what ppl stands for in front of Cheryls name!

It's funny but in my church only a few people know my name, but everyone knows the identity theft lady. And that's because I work at building my credibility and status as an 'expert'. Am I the only Identity theft person, no. But I do work hard to separate myself from the pack.

Branding....it's something that is VERY important, and it is comparable to "your" reputation in off line businesses.
Not to "toot" my horn, but I just want to add to Laura's article and the importance of branding........and it relates to my off line business life.
I've marketed electrical products for 30ish years in the off line world, I have represented various companies in that 30 years, mainly because I have been approached to represent these companies. They were after my "brand" as

Thats very true Laura and I also had the same problem, that someone else had the same name as me, if you can believe that.

@Joe. I agree, except for the fact that many people share the same name, so i chose to use a name that no one else had. I guess you could use your own name, but in my opinion, something catchy that describes you or your business may work a bit better.

Great advise Laura! When joining programs or opportunities that have many members, self branding makes you stand out in the crowd. There may be thousands of others promoting the same thing you are. Branding you, rather than the opportunity, is an important step to Internet Marketing that many do not do.

Good suggestions, however, I would like to suggest you also pick up your firstandlastname.com as well. After all you are unique and your name is the first place to start your branding. It's easy to look someone up on Google using their name and when they do, your domain will pop up on the first page in the number one spot (usually).
