@Rieke I am aware of your concerns. However, how I deal with it is to take what I want and ignore what I do not want.
When you register, you are given a login and password to access the free items. After you have evaluated and even downloaded the items and you do not want to continue to receive emails from the merchants, you can opt out of their mailing list. You still keep the free items you have downloaded.

What I like a little bit less is the fact, that the reader will be 'bombarded' with free stuff. I like free stuff, but when it comes to me like a truck full I run away. - I clicked on 'The writers best friend' expecting a little proof of this tool.
