What Has Happened to The American Dream?
The US government used US tax payers money to bail out financial institutions, and car manufactures. That was just too little to late for a great majority of the now unemployed Americans. There are millions of unemployed that are now on or out of their 4th tier of unemployment benefits. While the executives get their bonuses and are still employed. The effects of their bad choices are felt by the average American trying to provide the basic necessities for their families.
More jobs fast is the best solution.
But, until the job market improves in the hardest hit areas,
something has to be done. I have exhausted my unemployment long ago, and there are still no jobs to be found. People are still getting laid off. Factories are still closing. Millions more are exhausting their unemployment and preparing to loose everything they worked so hard all of their lives for.
I reside in the Elkhart, Indiana area and there are
so many in the same boat, or worse. There are millions of families
loosing their American Dream, they just aren't dreaming any more. It
has become more of a nightmare of debt. People who worked for 20 or
30 years, and were months away from paying off their home, are now
homeless. It is just terrible to pay on your home for almost 30 years
to have it taken from you in the blink of an eye. Who is bailing them
out?
It is so very heart breaking to see
proud, hard working, Americans have to beg for the bare necessities
of life in America. So many that are unemployed now, have never in
their life had to file for benefits for anything. There are a lot of
angry and hurt Americans that do not deserve to pay for the mistakes
of others, but we are all paying the price for other people and
companies greed and mismanagement.
Possibly one more tier
would get the hardest hit the much needed time to find another job or
complete training to find a job in another industry. There are just
not enough jobs to employ the currently unemployed. Every job that
comes into the job market is flooded with applications.
It
seems the government is spending so much money bailing out the
industries that got us here in the first place, they are forgetting
about the hard working tax payers who are loosing everything, all
thanks to the greed of others. How many executives in the bailed out
companies have lost anything in comparison to what the average,
unemployed American has lost?

don't even go there! I get so miffed when I see what we've allowed to the governments to become even here in Canada. The whole idea behind "government" was to be "for" the people but how it has turned around! It's now the people for the government and if you don't comply we'll take all you own. "We" own you. At least that's the impression I get. You don't see government officials hurting do ya? It's time to find a way to take back our countries and start standing on what they were built on in th

Now that I have left this for a while, I will let you in on a little secret, this was written about a year ago. I just wanted to see what reaction it would get!
What other thoughts are there on this subject? Is the "American Dream" still within reach?
I imagine the answers depend on who you ask...

Everything has a cycle and in history I saw many times America emerges as a winner from the worst scenarios. In 1929, same things has happened, I hope Obama recent tour of India will bring some positive things in near future.

That's right Cindy, I am not too far from you. It seems this area got hit last, and it will be the last to recover!
There are still so many businesses around here closing and laying off...sometimes it is hard to see the light at teh end of the tunnel.

I live in a very hard hit area too Kat,
South East Michigan,
Car making country.
Everything has a trickle down effect.
We just gotta keep moving forward and hope for the best!!
That American Dream is still there..
Just have to weed through a few nightmares to get there.
