Paid to : read, click, fill surveys, say hi
I find it funny that many, and I mean many people promote sites that pay to :
- Read articles ( PTR )
- Click ( PTC )
- Fill surveys
- Say "Hi"

Let's get serious here for a moment.
You consider these sites "business opportunities " ?
They have nothing to do with business.
At least, nothing to do with helping YOU build an online business.
You will spend an enormous amount of time for any of these kinds of sites, all that for making trickles of money.
If you want to treat your business as a hobby, fine, I have nothing against that.
The PTR or PTC sites want to have as many members as possible to get advertisers.
The ads you will see when you read or click, the companies in question hope you will buy the great offers shown.
So, I was wrong. You will not make trickles of money. You will LOSE money.
As for the survey sites, they say you can make a lot of money filling surveys.
Here are some facts.
Many of these surveys take a long time to fill.
It's not guaranteed you will make money for every survey you fill. There are a lot of people who fill surveys. A lot of competition out there. The survey companies look for dedicated people. Only then will you start to get some success.
The "say Hi" sites. Register, send contact requests, say hi, get points, make money.
Oh, BTW, why don't you send a link after you receive a contact request ? Hey, that person is interested in you, for sure, you were sent a CR so that he/she's excited about seeing the opportunities you offer.
Right ?
Well, maybe, for some people.
For some time.
After you've received 2 dozen offers an hour for 3 weeks, in many cases the same programs over and over, or the latest fad promoted by dozens of members, tell me if you're still excited.
I was a member of one of these sites for a few weeks.
Every body had thousands of points after a week or two.
After 2 months, I had 300 points.
Saying "Hi" repeatdly to get points is not my idea of fun.
Ok, successful members of these sites will tell you the secret is to get many referrals. You will make a lot of money in a few months. At least a few hundreds dollars per month.
Guys, a few hundreds a month is just about sufficient to pay the rent.
Don't tell me you will leave your day job being an active member there.
In conclusion, what I'm trying to tell you is, making anywhere between 10 cents and $500 a month in your online business means, you either just started on the IM world, which is ok, or you just need a sideline. Your spouse is the person who brings the bread on the table.
Nothing wrong with that.
Just don't tell me you're "building a business".
Building a business means, work smart, and, yes, I know, you don't want to hear that : work hard.

Wow - this is the blog I would have liked to have written.
The only opportunity that is going to last is one based on a real company that makes a real product that helps real people. Combine that with some real work on a consistent basis for at least 1-3 years and you should be able to develop some real results that will stay with you for many years to come.

@Paula, thanks for the nuance you bring. it's an excellent point. I tend to forget not everybody has the same conditions I have.
@Katrina, that "You do not qualify" thing is the main reason I stopped.
I will edit the blog to add it when I find the time.

Great post! I have tried a few of the programs you describe, I have been paid, a little. but certainly not what I need to make! The survey sites do take a long time and unfortunately, you do not get paid for every survey you fill out. sometimes I have spent an hour filling out their questions, only to get the message that I did not qualify to get paid...grr...an hour wasted! I just don't participate in them any more!

Good post Philippe. However my view is a bit less black and white. Time is money. I do not feel like clicking or reading for 1 cent. Because I can earn more with other opportunities. And I live in the Netherlands where I must pay about 2,50 US dollar for a loaf of bread. I have sufficient skills and knowledge of English to promote my opportunities on a global level. However if I would be born in f.e. Turkey and without the prior mentioned skills the value of this type of program would be very di

Dawie, I must admit, I didn't invent any of this information, nor did I read about somewhere.
I did all of them, except PTR, which I found ridiculous in the first place. Hey, what a wise guy I was, right ?

Philippe, you hit the nail squarely on the head.
When i first started on the internet i tried out all of the above except the "say hi" sites, that time it did not exist yet.
The only thing i still do every now and then is surveys, not for the money, because i want to give my opinion on certain products. For some i get paid, but it can take a year or longer to reach your payout.
And then there is the scammers, that really like these type of companies because they are so easy to setup and s
