Don't hurt your business
Many marketers are in a rush to build their business. Some of the things they do destroy their credibility. Be careful not to hurt your business.
Here are some of the things that you should avoid if you look for long term success.
Misleading terms
Headlines with words like "Brand new". In Internet Marketing, brand new is 24 hours ago. Calling a site "Brand new" in your headline when it's been around for 6 months won't help your credibility.
Of course, some people will be attracted by such words in your headline. They will post positive comments to get some attention, to encourage you. Or simply to get credits for writing something. Serious marketers won't take you seriously, though.
In my case, if I see the words "Brand new" and the name of a site I've been part of for 6 months, I will be tempted to post something saying, "it's not brand new". But instead, I won't comment and will consider that the person didn't work hard enough.
Dates in your ads
Be careful when you put dates in your ad headline or subtext. If you're saying "just launched" and write "October 14" in the subtext, it shows you don't do much follow up on your campaigns, or you don't work hard enough on finding words that will get attention. By the way, this is not an something I came up with, I saw it today.
Lots of grammatical errors in your RevPages
Creating a RevPage is not about setting a world record for the fastest way to put it out. You will lose the credits that you use to promote it. Reread it. Even when you're at step 4, you can go back and correct mistakes.
Sections that end in the middle of a word
I've seen some "About" sections, even some blog titles, that ended right in the middle of a word. Many times, we can guess what you want to say, but for my part, I wouldn't trust you with writing content for me. Blogs and RevPages can be edited. Preview how it looks like before clicking on the "Promote it" link.
I hope this blog helps you to not hurt your business.

Smaller letters are often looking more serious. Look at the design of sites people trust to and to imitate or learn from them.

I think when your mesage is sincere and honest people won't mind some spelling mistakes. Certainly not when your native language is not English. However for a website on your own domain I think excellent spelling and grammar are more important.

I don't agree with you, Andy. Look at the politicians. Like you said, most of them would not be able to graduate from an English writing class. Their charisma attracts people who want to work with them and write their speeches for them.
Ads that don't look good don't get attention for long. To this day, in Quebec French-speaking circles, I still hear people saying "la madame est ben contente" after hearing it in a Wal-Mart TV commercial. Nobody cares that it was Wal-Mart.

The grammar one is a less than 10% rate my friend and most feedback comes from folks who nit pick only to show how much better educated they feel they are. It does help with making sure the message is easier to read in multiple languages but is not a MUST. We have had great leaders, Presidents and Kings who could not pass English class for the life of them so losing focus to appease what the web calls grammar nazis is not as important as some folks think.
Fact is too much focus on those thing

LOL that last point about testimonials is funny... No, actually, it's sad. I should edit my blog and add it. I think I'll do just that.
As for making mistakes, I should rewrite that part. Making a mistake here and there is not that important, IMHO. It's when you see 2 or 3 mistakes per line, that doesn't look good.
One more thing about that. I understand that English is not the first language for many people, far from it. But in these cases, when I understand the point, I don't mind. Most of t

Good point Phillipe. But about spelling and gramar mistakes I would like to ad the following. Our mind is playing tricks with us. Sometimes I read a writing of myself 4 times to find out later there is still a spelling or grammar mistake in it. This happens because we see what we expect to see. When I read somebody elses text I spot mistakes immidiatly. Often when I read my own text, I don't. It is best when you have somebody else to proof read. If you don't have such a person it is best to rev
