To be successful as an online service provider you need to have your own website. You may get project form freelancing sites like GAF, eLance or oDesk but having your own website will give you many benefits.
  1. You can get projects yourself through your website. You will not have to pay commission to anyone and you will get much better rate.
  2. You can show your knowledge and expertise on your website. This will help a lot to get new projects.
  3. You can show ads from AdSense or other providers. This will generate some residual income for you.

Developing your own website doesn't require that much knowledge of HTML. Now-a-days a lot of free content management systems are available. Free templates are also available.
