The Scottish Isle of Skye is a beautiful site to take a holiday away from the bustle and stress of your normal schedule. The lovely countryside is a centre of Gaelic culture, and Gael is spoken there by many locals even today. Flora and fauna are abundant on the isle and the landscape in the area is world renowned for its rare charm. If you are trying to plan where to go on your next trip, take some time to consider the Scottish Isle of Skye.

The Isle of Skye boasts a rich history and culture that has been impressively preserved even in these times. Prehistoric artifacts have been found by archaeologists that have been dated back to the Bronze Age and even before earlier. Writings from the end of the 7th century exist which mention the island, and it was under the control of the Norse from the 9th to 13th centuries. After that, Clan MacLeod and Clan MacDonald had sway over the island, and their ancient castle keeps can still be visited. The clan system ended during the late 1700's and landed estates became set up.

One of the best reasons to choose Skye as your next vacation spot is that there are activities for everyone to enjoy. If you fancy yourself a nature lover, you will be in for a special delight. The Isle of Skye's geography is aesthetically astounding. The peaks found on the island make up some of the most rugged terrain that you can hike anywhere in Scotland. These hikes are well worth the effort, though, because they guide you to jaw dropping scenes of the countryside and coast. If you do not enjoy strenuous treks, you can also find delightful paths to follow along the coast and in valleys past the many lochs of Skye.

Skye is a great place to get exposed to Gaelic culture. Dunvegan Castle, Caisteal Maol, and other ruins of castles are open for tours. Music is a key part of island culture and festivals are held many times during the year, one of the most attended of which is the Isle of Skye Music Festival. Another big celebration is the Isle of Skye Highland Games; which is normally held on August 9. Feis an Eilein, a celebration of Gaelic culture, is held during two weeks on the Sleat Peninsula during mid-July. Visitors come to the island from all over the world to enjoy these special yearly events.

There are many places to stay for people visiting, with Isle Of Skye Hotels becoming one of the most popular choices. To arrive to the isle, you can take the train to a ferry that will get you to the other side of the water to the island in roughly 20 minutes. You can also choose to travel by bus or car, though this will take substantially longer. On the island, cars and bikes are available for rent.

The  Isle of Skye has become one of the most lovely holiday break spots in the entire UK. The island has amazing natural beauty and a strong culture that will make it worth your journey there.
