President Obama belives children do not spend enough time in school.

According to the U.S. Department of State, "Americans have always debated the quality and direction of their educational system, but in recent years the focus has been upon the best ways to measure and increase academic achievement. Comparisons with students in other countries have also sharpened the debate over educational methods and results, especially those showing U.S. schools lagging in science and mathematics."

Due to the current economic lag, warned to happen as early as December 2007, and the current unemployment rate ~ it is a good idea to keep children in a learning environment as much as possible.

Young minds are very much like sponges, the more exposure they have to vital education, the more they are likely to make better decisions as adults.

On November 19, 1957, a publication entitled "Education and Our National Security" ~ Dr. Clem was concerned about his 16 year old son "wasting his time reading ... H. G Wells, 'Warof the Worlds' and 'The First Man in the Moon.'  Recently I am sure he has had occasion to observe a marked silence, even a certain sheepishness, on my part. In fact, I am now asking myself if it could be that all along he has perceived better than I the shape of things to come and the rapidity with which things are moving in this world.

It leads me to speculate even more on the question: How well prepared, mentally, psychologically, philosophically will he and his contemporaries be to meet the future with confidence and assurance ?"

Parents today are not vigilant as to what their child's mind is exposed to.  My brother once expressed, "every day his child returns home from school, she is a different person" ~ this is true for all children for the time they are separtated from their parents.

Parents, who volunteer in the school setting have better communication with their child than those who do not.  Children, whose parent(s) are involved with their daily education, matures a lot differently than children whose parents are not involved,

Extended school days and weekend access will enhance children's learning ability; if teachers are supported with resources:

 * additional nutrition for the children's extended days

* one-on-one assistance with homework ( that should be accomplished at school )

* parents, who volunteer in the school setting should have their time documented for a tax reduction incentive

* childrens jr and sr year of high school should be structured in a fashion that gives them credit hours toward a vocational or college degree

Parents could save on the extra expense of childcare for elemetary school aged children as well as post high school expenses for the first couple of years of vocational schools or college.

Extended school days should increase employment opportunities to rally the educational support of our future tax payers.
