Makeover madness hits America's Next Top Model this week. Read along with me to see who has a makeover melt down, who becomes platinum blonde, and who gets the worst weave of Cycle 12. My first question for you tonight--what do you think about the new slowed down Top Model song? Do you love it or hate it? I think it's distracting and trying too hard to be sexy, something Tyra criticizes ANTM contestants for all the time. Back in the Top Model house, Aminat is mad as hell that Isabella got sent home. And I still am too, especially after talking to the adorable Isabella. Aminat confronts Sandra about her attitude, and not surprisingly Sandra doesn't take it kindly. Sandra is definitely not here to make friends and the girls are noticing that. Aminat said that if Sandra had been kicked out, "Not one of us would have hugged her," and I don't blame them. Also, this confrontation just cements my love for Aminat. The first girl they are focusing on is Jessica and she is predicting her future on Top Model: "I'm going to kick some ass in the next photo shoot." Deadlier words have never been spoken in reality TV. The next morning the girls are picked up in a pink plaid stretch limo, which is way tackier than any of the other Top Model mobiles, which is saying something. We know this plaid disaster is taking the girls to their makeove The J's are standing at a tres high end New York salon and they are joined by -- Mission Impossible Tyra on Mr. Jay's Blackberry. Well, not actually, this is another high end Tyra entrance ala the Tyra-bot. The J's challenge, whether they choose to accept it or not, is to get these girls made over. To this end Tyra has sent the Jay's dossiers on each of the girls. Jessica: needs to be edged out, so they chop it shorter, add a wave and red. Sandra: instant karma. Sandra's head is shaved and dyed blonde. Oh no--just as I feared, Tyra has tried to soften Allison by giving her a full on Barbie weave. Even worse, Allison loves it. Nijah gets an "exaggerated weave," but doesn't really look any different. Fo just wanted extensions, instead they cut off all of her hair into a boyish cut. She looks gorgeous -- but not like Fo. Celia ends up crying, but not complaining during her hair cut. She turns out looking fierce, iced out blonde with a short crop. OH NO! Aminat's afro is a weave. I've been loving it all cycle and I was fooled! This is so disappointing. Oh, but it just got so much better--Miss J takes Aminat's shorn weave and wears it like a shrug, sashaying around the salon. Aminat gets a long straight weave and looks like Cycle 6 Winner Dani's identical twin. Kortnie goes red, Code Red. (Tyra is still going with this spy theme.) J'adore London's bone structure. So they make her a white blond punk pixie? Ouch...not good. Natalie, who I called as the secret bitch, is proving me right. She is complaining and actually bats the scissors away from the head stylist. The salon owner walks away pissed... Not good Natalie, not good. Have you never watched ANTM before? Makeover complainers rarely triumph. And commercial, drat! Back to hair cut naysayer Natalie. In the end...the J's weren't planning on changing anything about Natalie's hair. What?! They say they saw model head to toe without any changes. So Natalie's bitchiness was all for not, unfortunately there is no way the judges will forget it. Teyona gets a long jheri-curl, Tyra's words not mine. Tahlia gets a long blonde relaxed weave. Another example of someone who should never be made blonde. Fo is crying. Her makeover has made her very very sad. Oh Fo, we liked you so much and now we're not so sure. Fo says she has always hidden who she was out of shame for being poor and living with a single mother, but has never felt ugly until today. Come on ladies--this is a haircut! That night the girls go out to African food. Everyone is having a good old time, but Sandra of course ruins the fun. She tsk-tsks the 21 year-old Aminat for having a drink with dinner. Luckily this spawns a great Top Model quote and life lesson courtesy of Aminat: "Keep it cute or put it on mute." After the somewhat disastrous dinner, the girls return to the Top Model loft to discover Tyra Mail. This mail's riddle reads: how many models does it take to screw in a light bulb? You'll find out tomorrow. As we knew, this photo shoot is all about light. Not only will the light be a main focus of the photo, the girls will also be lighting themselves. When ANTM Judge and fashion photographer is introduced as who is shooting the girls, some of them freak out positively, while others are overcome with nerves. And we can't blame them, Nigel tells the girls "this is your chance to really impress me." The theme of the shoot is rock'n'roll and leather. The girls are posing on a cement and brick set, piled with debris. While the photos are group shots, one girl is supposed to be the center of the photo and she is lighting herself. Tahlia is up first and she struggles with the dual task of lighting herself and posing. As we expected, photography lover Allison does really well on the challenge--but I am utterly distracted by how much she looks like a twisted heroin chic Barbie doll. It is freaking me out. Nijah is up next and she continues to do nothing impressive. Nigel says he's really disappointed in Nijah because she's a beautiful girl, but photographing her did nothing for him. Our lovely Latina, Jessica lights herself like a kid telling a ghost story would with a flashlight, which can't be good for her photo. Next up is Aminat. We have high hopes for Aminat, but so far she's just not meeting them. During her photo shoot, Mister Jay stops the shoot to tell Celia (one of the extras for Aminat's shot) that she is doing amazing and out performing Aminat. After that, Aminat looses any confidence and inspiration she had. After Aminat is Celia's actual photo shoot and it is equally successful, I am so glad that the judges are as enamored with Celia as I am. Karma continues to punish Sandra for her evil ways, her photo shoot is all kinds of awkward. On top of that, with her blonde bald head and purple lips, she looks like one very mean clown. Sandra is followed up by Kortnie, who seems to half bore Nigel to death. The usually chatty photographer doesn't say a word to Kortnie during her shoot. Luckily, she is followed up by London who is the stellar poser of the season. London takes charge of her photo and hits some amazing angles...I like London more every time I see her take a photo. She is dynamic in front of the camera. Also a surprisingly good poser? Alien goddess Teyona! She heads on to set and poses like crazy, lighting herself in ways that none of the girls had even thought about. Nigel is smitten. Fo is still letting her makeover get to her in a big way, she is crying on set. She says she's feeling a little butch with her new hair, "not plain Jane, but plain Jane's brother." Damn Fo, it is not that bad...in fact your 'do is kind of fab. But she keeps going--Fo says she doesn't know how to work with her hair and I am starting to get very worried that Fo is going to become this cycle's Jaeda. And that is not a good thing. After a lack luster start last week, Natalie totally rocks her photo shoot. Every other word out Nigel's mouth is "beautiful." Now it's time for panel and for once, we're not 100% sure who is going to be in the bottom two...unfortunately this week it feels like there could be a lot of options. The guest judge is former ANTM judge Nole Marin, who I love and miss for his zingy one liners. Hopefully he hasn't lost his touch. First up is Fo, who's haircut is growing on me. The short 'do really shows off Fo's amazing bone structure and makes her look less like a pretty girl and more like a model. Despite crying on set, Fo's photo is gorgeous. Of course, she's not going to get off that easy and Nigel calls her out for crying on set and blaming her perceived poor performance on her haircut. This allows Tyra to give one of her classic lectures about "what it's like being a model." Secretly, Tyra loves these lectures. Kortnie is up next and her photo is dreadful. She looks like she's waving in planes at an airport rather than lighting a high fashion photo. Nijah's photo isn't much better, Paulina says that Nijah looks "like a pretty corpse." (I thought that was the point of fashion, Paulina?) While Tyra says, "it's like Nijah never heard the words smile with your eyes"--gasp! Don't worry Tyra, I'm pretty sure even my Dad has heard the term "smile with your eyes" by now. As expected, London's photo is a-m-a-z-i-n-g and really embodies the rock and roll spirit of the shoot. Next up is Allison who is looking more and more like a living doll than ever. Her photo is gorgeous, but she does not take lightly to being called an alien by Nole Marin. Tyra assures her it is a compliment. Sandra is up next and I am hoping her streak of bad luck continues...and it does. Her photo is all kinds of boring and Paulina says that "Sandra radiates dullness." Also as expected, Celia's photo is fabulous. It is edgy and high fashion and she is totally controlling the photo. Nigel showers Celia with praise, telling Celia: "when I was shooting other girls, I found myself focusing on you." I gotta say, I am feeling more and more confident that Celia is a dark horse for the win this cycle. Jessica is up next for judging and ouch--one of the worst Top Model photos I've seen in a long time. Her photo is unflattering and mean looking, also in the photo she looks strangely like a Latina version of Cycle 8's Russian sex pot Natasha, but angrier. The judges tell Tahlia she is not modeling in her photo and that she's just a pretty girl in a photo. Finally they've caught on to what every Top Model fan has been saying. This could be the comment that sends Tahlia home. Natalie looks about ten feet tall in her photo and completely gorgeous, despite her makeover melt down she'll definitely make another week. Next up is Nigel's favorite, Teyona. Tyra hates Teyona's makeover and is going to have it redone, if she makes it to the next round. Based on her stunning photo, there's no way Teyona is not getting a new weave. Last up for the judge's critique is Aminat, who managed to light herself out of the photo. Despite having two large light bulbs near her, Aminat is hard to see in the photo, which may be a blessing because the face she is giving is not pretty. Now it is time for the judging. Everyone is disappointed in Nijah, especially she who is obsessed with smiling with your eyes. Tyra calls Allison her "poster child to prove odd and different is beautiful." To which I say, I so called it -- Allison is going to be the girl who can do no wrong in Tyra's eyes this cycle. Everyone is in love with Celia and Miss J especially appreciates that she turns every panel into a runway performance with her fashion forward look. Paulina isn't buying Tahlia as a model, and neither am I. Nole just called Jessica a monster in Spanish--not what you want to hear about your photo on a modeling show. Nigel is still gushing about Teyona. And Nole proves he hasn't lost a bit of his delightful nastiness, he says Aminat's photo is so ugly he can't even bear to look at it. For the first time in forever, I am not 100% certain who will be in the bottom two, but my best guesses are Jessica and Tahlia. Tonight the first girl called will be the week's winner--and it goes to Nigel's favorite alien: Teyona. My favorite Celia is called second and Tyra's poster child Allison is called third. Then comes a stream of the so-so performances, and I am shocked that Tahlia is called and given another chance. What is that about Tyra, this girl has a sad story and is inspiring, but that does not a model make. We're down to the final three: Aminat, Jessica, and Fo. I'd bet the world that the bottom two will be Aminat and Jessica--the girls who received the harshest words from Nole--and I'd be wrong! The bottom two are Fo and Jessica. How is Fo in the bottom two? Tyra kept Jaeda around for weeks while she bitched and cried about her short hair 'do. Tyra tells Fo that she's in the bottom two because of her reaction to her haircut, which is kind of ridiculous, I thought this was about their photos. Tyra turns to Jessica and tells her that modeling isn't about being pretty, but about being pretty in a picture and that she's failed at that so far. Please don't send Fo home Tyra, please don't send Fo home Tyra....and phew! She doesn't. Fo is given another week to grow accustomed to her short hair, while Jessica is sent packing. You could probably scoop Jessica's jaw off the floor after Tyra calls Fo's name. Jessica who claimed she'd never been called ugly before, says she is shocked by the criticism and that she's "never heard anything but you're beautiful." She leaves the house on a bitter note, saying she is "way prettier than many of the girls who are left," which isn't the point at all Jessica. The resting on pretty lecture, obviously hadn't gotten through. And that's the end of the makeover episode folks, nothing too disastrous I must say. My favorite makeover of the episode is Celia's, while it's not drastic it dramatically upped her high fashion appeal. The worst of the night? It's a toss-up between the three shouldn't-ever-be-blondes: Sandra, Tahlia, and Alliso
