A Grandparent's Legacy

by Eve Price

Passing Down your Legacy and Heritage..

You, Dear Grandparent, and all that you bring to your family's heritage, are a very unique and important person in your Grandchildrens’ lives. You bring your family's legacy, and your own wisdom, experience and knowledge to them.

You have lived and cried and laughed and loved for many more years than they can even imagine. But in addition, you have access to the information that was given to you from your own parents, your grandparents, and other relatives.

Obviously, the first thing to do is to get all the information gathered together that you can find about your own family’s history. That is if you do not already have it. You can do it the hard way, going to old cemeteries, hours of research in public libraries in their genealogy room, OR you can do it the EASY way.

The EASY way is buy getting this very inexpensive e-book, to tell you how to start: The Desperate Geneologist's Idea Book  or this one: Create Your family Tree

Thanks to modern technology, there are many avenues of research available for tracing one's family heritage online.

The most precious gift, I believe, that you can give your family is the gift of their own sense of who they are. Most every person has a sincere desire to know about their family’s history, legacy and ancestry.

All of this history, that you are piecing together to preserve, should also include the personal and interesting stories that can only come from you, your parents, your living relatives. The uniqueness of your Grandchildren knowing about some personal stories in their past, is truly priceless.

Take a tape recorder and go to visit everyone related to you and ask them to start talking. I love the story my Grandmother told me once about how her brothers used to run “moonshine” throughout the Tennessee Lookout Mountains.

Preservation of your family legacy can be done, of course, the way the Native Americans have always done it, via verbal stories.

Thankfully in this day and age, we can physically preserve those stories and photos and more.

But whatever you decide to use, giving your Grandchildren, a documented history of their own roots and ancestry is a timeless and invaluable gift.
