The Original Cantaloupe...Is the seed in the SEED VAULT?
Who remembers what the original cantaloupe tasted like, or the original tomato, the cucumber....how about the original watermelon with the great big seeds and was so juicy it quenched your thirst instead of fill you up?
I started thinking about this the other day when I bought a cantaloupe from the fruit market, cut it up for dinner dessert, chilled it. When we started to eat it that evening, I tasted "pumpkin", not a cantaloupe! My husband the same, but my kids thought that I had become a health freak overnight and cut up a raw pumpkin! My daughters ate it as a "cantaloupe", my son ate it as "pumpkin".
This is only one anamoly of many that I have noticed in the fruits and vegetables. Nothing I grew up eating tastes the same any more; too much fooling around with nature is not good is what I am saying. How about you cut up a potato and right smack in the middle is something dark of unknown origin? or a tomato, perfectly firm and ripe, and when cut up, one side is juicy , the other side looks like a beehive?
Is it just my fruit market that is selling all these strange products, or is something being done to our seeds?
Well, there is one thoughtful organization that is doing something about it to preserve the originals and in case of a disastrous food shortage in the world. Please follow the link and read the amazing story of the "seed" from theSEED VAULT!
