Snakesmum's Garden
A while ago, I was asked for some pictures of my garden, but at the time,
I'd mislaid my battery charger for the camera batteries. Well, now I've found
it, the batteries are all charged up, and you're all going to suffer through
my snapshots!
This is my backgarden, with the fruit trees taking over. Yes, I know the
grass is in bad shape, but hey, we're in a drought here, and can't water lawns.
The long black hose is the overflow from my water tank to the trees.
Part of the front garden. The rocks are supposed to be around a dry creek bed, and
believe me, it's very dry just now. I dug it because originally drainage was bad, and
the water just sat in pools - oh the good old days! :-)

The goldfish pond, around which most of the little plants have died. The fish wouldn't
oblige by coming to the surface today.

This bit was constructed to rescue the cacti and succulents from the chickens in the back.
It filled up an unused very dry, hot place, and is a bit out of place, but we like it.

Another view of the front garden, which is all native in this section.

Facing towards the side of the house, and the trees in the background aren't natives -
most of them were there when I bought the place, so I left them. They hide the side
fence very well.
The pink flowered tree and the eucalypt are only young, and will soon be several
metres tall.

OK, now that wasn't so bad, was it? Only a few, but I like to share these things - I
love my garden, enjoy being out there getting my hands dirty.

I am totally jealous of your green thumb; mine seems to have faded. As have my plants.

Well, it's almost winter, and the maintenance season for gardens has arrived.
Mostly I'm tidying things up, planting new shrubs in the hope of rain, and of course,
pulling up weeds! :-(
In the veggie patch, I'm putting in some winter crops in the hope of saving a
little money at the supermarket. Everything is so expensive now.
My olive tree has fruited well this year, so I'm currently preserving olives.
The lemon tree has decided to flower so maybe it will fruit next spring, but

Hi July,
When I moved here, eleven years ago, there was nothing but grass front and
back, and one lonely plum tree. There were also two large trees in the front, which
I had removed as they were dangerous.
How it is now, is all my own work, with help from my partner in the last
few years. Takes time for the trees to grow, and we've lost a couple,
but it's getting there now.
And at the moment, the garden is very happy - it's actually rained on and off
for the last two days! Hope we

Hi Jeff,
City weary ? Yes, understand perfectly, and my garden is in the city.
It's our oasis. We're lucky in that this block is a quarter of an acre -
the new ones are smaller, and you can't do as much with them.
I love my garden! :-)

He Jeunelle,
Thanks for your comments - we love our circle of stones too! :-)
You're right about bringing things back to life.
A couple of my plants were collected from the side of the road -
someone had thrown them out and they were dying. Took them
home, and they are now big strong additions to the garden.
Not shown in any of these photos though.
We use the circle a lot. The old washing line holder underneath the table
has been adapted to hold a brazier, so we can have heat or even a b

Hi Beth,
Thanks !
Since there are flies, insects and pondweed, the fish only get fed
about twice a week. They do very well.
6 of the seven I have were born in that little pond, so they are obviously
quite happy there.
Pity the apricot waterlily wasn't in flower when I took the photo - it's
beautiful.
