Capybara- A REALLY BIG RODENT! Sorry, Rodentia-Phobes but at least you will get a few laffs! LOL!
The Capybara is really kind of cute and gentle, like an over-sized Guinea pig...
But try to tell that to a "Rodentiaphobe" which is a person who fears rodents of any type. To them, a Rat, Mouse, Hamster or Gerbil is surely the "Spawn Of Hell" and I've seen grown men actually jump sky-high at the sight of one...
If that is truly a "Hardwired Fear " I am sure that a glance at a Capybara would send them Moon-bound, without a thought of returning back to this Planet, until all the Capybaras are gone! LOL! :)
The Capybara can weight up to 180 lbs., run as fast as a horse-- about 40 miles an hour, and swim like a hippo with it's webbed feet ( Please folks, no silly comparisons to your ex-spouses or ex-lovers until the end of this article...)
Usually the prey of really, really BIG SNAKES:
http://www.metacafe.com/watch/852978/biggest_snakes_in_the_world
The Capybara is also considered by Humans to be a food item in the countries that it inhabits, with Horse and lasso used to chase them. When missionaries ( True rat-a-phobics) saw this "disgusting" behavior among the Native people, they tried to ban it-- (Very stupid...) and wound up on the menu themselves, I'm told. They then had Capybara flesh declared as a "Fish", so as to be "biblicly- correct". I'll try to find some recipes for anyone who is curious, I aim to please...
A lot of people also consider Capybaras as pets, but prepare to run up a big bill in vegetables, because they have a "Rodent-like" metabolism, and must eat nearly every hour they are awake...
Gosh, how would you feel if you unexpectedly stumbled across one of these giant rats in your kitchen while it's fetching a midnight snack?
I'd venture that rodentiaphobes would have a very hard time explaining their sudden flights to the Aviation Commission! :)
I, myself, have had all kind of pets from Bats to Bugs, and I once had several rats as pets, and they are very smart creatures... I used to raise 1000's of them and other animals for cancer research in my younger days.
Isis, one of my prized rats, learned how to open her cage, and find her way to my pillow while I'm sleeping... This activity would prove to be an "eye-opener " for my bed-guests, especially if she was a rat-phobic, and I forgot to warn her about this particular behavior of my furry friends...
I would NEVER intentionally scare anyone... Well, maybe at Halloween... LOL! :)
I'd love to have a Capybara as a pet, but I'll have to settle for a stuffed one, I don't want to give the neighborhood cats heart attacks when I take it for a walk! LOL! :)
More images of these cuddly cuties-- Thanks to webshots:

Please share your rodent stories or whatever is on your mind about these critters. Do you know a Rodentia- Phobe? Anybody become unglued at the sight of a bunny? I know several people who do... I also had a neighbor who was deathly afraid of squirrels, for cryin' out loud... They would play jokes on her, too! Rodents are a lot smarter that we might give them credit for... Don't say I didn't warn you! :)
Kiss Them For Me- Lyrics from Lyricwiki- Cool Huh?
It glittered and it gleamed
For the arriving beauty queen
A ring and a car
Now you're the prettiest by far
No party she'd not attend
No invitation she wouldn't send
Transfixed by the inner sound
Of your promise to be found
"Nothing or no-one will ever
Make me let you down"
Kiss them for me -- I may be delayed
Kiss them for me -- if I am delayed
It's divoon, oh it's serene
In the fountains pink champagne
Someone carving their devotion
In the heart shaped pool of fame
"Nothing or no-one will ever
Make me let you down"
Kiss them for me -- I may be delayed
Kiss them for me -- I may find myself delayed
On the road to New Orleans
A spray of stars hit the screen
As the 10th impact shimmered
The forbidden candles beamed
Kiss them for me -- I may be delayed
Kiss them for me -- I may find myself delayed
Kiss them for me -- kiss them for me
Kiss them for me -- I may find myself delayed

I'm only going to do a blog about the Candiru by request-- This one is too painful to write about in my amusing "Off-The-Cuff" style! LOL! :)
You know it's bad when I can't think up a way to make something funny! :(

I can't believe you went there with the candera catfish! I guess you aren't planning any visits to South America!
As for the snakes, I still maintain hatbands, purses, shoes, etc or as I saw the other day paperweights!

Poor snake!
I have two acquaintances who now won't visit my house, because the thought
of my snakes in there puts them into a panic.
I don't think I'm phobic about any animal, but I don't like earwigs and monkeys.

I love Capys!!!!!
I was a zookeeper a lifetime ago. We bottle raised a baby one. they are the cutest things!! I was always amazed at how long they could swim underwater before coming up for air. They do eat a TON!!
My mother is terrified of snakes. you can make her wet her pants by flashing a rubber snake at her. Seriously!! Once, she let my cousin wash some work clothes in her washer (he worked in the woods for a logging company). The next morning she went to wash a load and whe

We have some capybaras at Melbourne Zoo also. They are quite near the
entrance. And they're always eating!

As you enter the zoo, in Santa Barbara, Ca., this is one of the very first animals that you will see. Wow, you know more about them.
They always seem to be really docile & quite. I had no idea that they could run so fast. The fence is low too, hope they can't jump like a horse..lol.

Too late. But the Capy's are really cute. And know I know where Jake got off too. He didn't want to be late to his photo shoot. As long as he's not in my backyard any more!

My mother was the ultimate "Eek it's a mouse" woman, but strangely enough loved hamsters, gerbils and guinea pigs. I could see her having one of these as a pet.
