The Chikoo- Basketball Orange and Ugly -- It's Full Of Latex... So Eat Only When Ripe Please!
It has occured to me over the past few days that most of the ugliest fruits are also the sweetest when they are ripe, and they also can be the most obnoxiously aromatic or poisonous... I guess that Nature provides these traits as defence features against predators that won't promulgate the fruits' seeds.
Yet there some fruits and veggies that are so well protected that NOTHING or NOBODY will even touch them in their unflowered state... forcing many of these "uglies" to grow beautiful flowers- to hide behind, so they can reproduce...
The Chickoo is an India species that grows on bush-vines near the ground. Looking totally like a Basketball-- ( The one on the photo has been peeled) It curiously contains a full load of natural Latex, which is totally bitter and smelly, and in some cases, poisonous... Yet some people find them delicious when they are fully ripe... Go figure! :)
There are a lot of products that are made with Latex , synthetic or natural, that are sold in the multi- billion dollar "Adult Products" market...
Maybe the Chickoo is an aphrodisiac for those who want to put some "Bounce" in their Boudoirs! LOL!

I want to comment but I won't cause the minute I saw that thing my mind did a nose dive straight into the gutter! I was a medic in the army and this thing looks like something better suited to Hustler magazine than being sold as food! Too bad they don't have emoticons on APSense because this deserves a double shocked smiley.

People say that it's totally wonderful, I've yet to try it for myself, but there is a large India population in the community... I'll let you know.
Even the growers and sellers of this fruit say that it smells and looks really peculiar, but sells like crazy... Hmmmmmmmm! :)
