The Anglerfish-- FUGGLY On A Plate! Yes, You Have Probably Eaten One...
(Fuggly= ****king Ugly)
but you can thank your freaking Lucky Stars, that you've never seen one in it's Natural state! LOL! :)
The Anglerfish family consists of many different fish, there are a wondrously wide variety of shapes, colors, feeding techniques, and habits... Just like Humans.
And like us Humans, some of them have an appearance only a mother could ever love...
Anglers come to the dinner table, as perfectly beautiful filets or medallions and steaks. They are an excellent substitute for Lobster, crayfish and shrimp, because they feed on those species and their flesh has the marvelously delicate taste and texture of those animals...
Yet, I have seen burley, tough grown fishermen toss their catch, with fishing tackle attached, straight overboard after accidently hooking one of these while fishing for codfish... Especially The All-Mouth Anglerfish, which looks like Hell's Dental Nightmare. It can swallow a basketball whole, but this monster shows up in the supermarket as Monkfish... Ladies and Gents, you have noooooooooo Idea! LOL! :)
Somewhere back in time, somebody wisely said that "It's not always a good idea to give the customer a full glance at what he or she is about to eat!"
I wonder if that was the same dude who had anything to do with the invention of having "Sex with the lights off..."
I'm just guessing to myself here... :)

Mullet Roe is a delightful, too, Cheryl! :)
The price has rocketed up for fresh fish-- Mullet was a great buy in the North at $1.00 a lb-- It's now nearly $5.00 a pound... Flounder is at $8.00 a lb...
It's more sense that ever to go fishing for these... You can even make money when you get back to the dock-- People are willing to buy your catch on the spot! :)

It's funny but where you go depends on what fish is considered acceptable and what is considered "trash". When I lived in Virginia Spot and Croaker were great fish and pretty pricy to buy. Mullet was considered an unedible trash fish. Only a few people would eat them. When I moved to Florida is was the exact opposite. People would kill for mullet. However spot and croaker were on the trash fish list. It paid to go to the fish market when they would get them. We would get croaker for abou

Most people here used to wrongly classify a foodstuff by the people who eat it... a bad habit really, because it's one of the many things that tend to separate Humans from each other...
Happily, with the emergence of many, many fine programs on the media about foods, and the people who eat them... We are beginning to learn that we have a lot more in common with each other than previously thought...
Sea Bream here would include fish like black sea bass, croakers, butterfish, spots and ot

Red Mullet is the posh one here and Grey Mullet is the Trashy one - but you find all sorts of strange things in the grey ones these days and they need cleaning really well!!!!!!!! Did you know that Red and Grey Mullet are not related - except in their names? Red Mullet are from the Mullidae fish family and the Grey Mulet are from the Mugilidae familiy.
We get a lot of sea bream here - all different kinds - where does that come on your scale of fish?
They all taste pretty good to me

Mullet used to be one of the most inexpensive fish in the market.... Like almost everything in the sea, they have suffered tremendously from pollution and overfishing.... and the prices has gone up..
Crunchy mullet, fried whole and served with hush puppies on ripped-open brown paper, you just can't get anymore Southern than that.... Throw in a NeHi and, you'll develop an accent in minutes, LOL! :)

Jenn Where you are you should be able to get your hand's on the ultimate trash fish, Mullet. It was only after I moved to Florida that I learned fish have edible gizzards too! It took a little convincing but fried Mullet gizzard is actually pretty good.

Omg....I went snorkeling one time and had a sucker fish attached to me and freaked out....if I were to see this in the ocean I would never step my foot in it again.
I only like trash fish is what I am told. If it tastes like fish...I can't stand it. But I do love catfish, and grouper, and tilapia.
I love shell fish. I don't know what it is about fishy fish..it won't even go down.
