I Love Snakes !
When I was a child, we lived in the UK, where there are no venomous snakes. I guess
this is why I never learned to hate them, and always wanted one for a pet.
As a teenager, in Australia, my mother freaked when I said I wanted a pet snake - I got
a budgie (parakeet) instead!
When I was married, my husband couldn't stand to be near one - still no pet snake.
Then I lived in a flat - Body Corporate rules, and they didn't like pets.
Eventually, I bought my own house. A friend had a snake, and that was it! Off I went
to do some research.
After lots of reading, study, and searching the net for info, I decided to get myself a
Stimson's python. These are native to Australia, but we need to be licenced to
keep one. Licence duely applied for, meanwhile I bought the cage, and accessories.
The day the license arrived in the mail, I shot over to a nearby reptile supplier and
looked at the available reptiles. The photo at the top is this snake now - he's
sleeping in his water bowl. It doesn't do a lot for the water purity, but he's happy.
He's a friendly little guy, and I've had him for about 6 years. Now I also have
two female Stimson's pythons, and a male Centralian python.
Guess I'm pretty unusual in my choice of pets, but there's something about reptiles
that appeals to me. I really love snakes.

I bet he scared a few local animals too, or even ate them!
Beautiful snakes, but far too big for pets, I think.

I'm sure he found a good home, in our local swamps. As a kid, our city had plenty of swamp land. I think over the years, they have drained a lot of our natural swamp land. Atleast this snake had some 30 years that the swamps were not touched. I hope he grew into an rightful old age.

Hi Lisa
Hope the boa found a good home! Your aunt would have probably had to
have found another one for it anyway - those things get huge - not the pet
for young boys when they become adult snakes.
Hi Jen,
That's ok, we can't all like the same things, and I don't particularly like
dogs, which surprises many people, but hey, that's me! :-)

When I was a very young girl, my Aunt got a snake for her 4 boys. Not that she paticulary wanted it, but for her kids begged her for it.
I really enjoyed going to visit them and to see their snake. It was a boa constrictor, beautiful.
The youngest of all of us, was only 4 years old. He decided to take the snake out for an inocent "Walk" one day. We never saw the snake again. My Aunt, would not get another one. I always thought the snake was pretty cool though.

Hi Fishie, & Peaceful,
Will try and post some pics of my other reptiles, and the cat.
Have to find some really good ones for you though.
Guaranteed no apes in there at all, Jeunelle !

I love snakes too and I've had a few of them as pets -- The climate here has changed weatherwise, and snakes don't seem to be taking it too well indoors, so I'll just enjoy seeing them when i go hiking next year! :)

Do you have pictures of your other pets Jean? I would love to see them. Another friend of mine has a really cool Chameleon (Fred) - he is about 5 yrs old now, I guess they live to be around 9 or 10 years old. Amazing reptile. Fred is kinda ugly, but very facinating all the same.
We were wonderfully made and so are Jean's snakes. Very cool.

Hi Jeunelle,
The creationist theory versus evolution ! Too hard for this little old brain
Do think that Darwin had something though, and for his time, he was a
very advanced thinker.
And if we're related to apes, wouldn't they have all the attributes you
mentioned for us? :-)
Love the one about the forked tongue though! :-)
My partner said to me last week, "There's a lot of snake in you, isn't there?"
He meant it as a compliment though!

Hi Fishie,
Yes, he's beautiful, and very good natured and placid.
I like blue-tongues too, but haven't the space for any more reptiles
in my house. Or the cash for the upkeep either! :-)

oh Jean, he is purdy!
I have a dear friend who got herself a blue-tongued skink-- interesting that.
I think I would prefer a snake. LOL

Hi Eric,
I did forget to mention the word "dangerously" in front of venomous. Don't think
the adder has been responsible for any deaths, just a nasty reaction.
Never saw one in the UK, and only saw a grass snake once, as a child.
Think that's why I like them - it used to come and drink the milk we put
out for the hedgehogs in the garden.

Hi
Don't forget the Adder - supposed to be widely distributed in the UK. Although I never saw one.
Come to that have not seen that many in Oz - enough though - lost a few cats to them - when we had the hobby farm. Seen one in the back garden since we moved to the Sunshine Coast - but now Goannas. skinks and
Lizards are quite a different story.
