Lest We Forget
In Flanders Fields
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep,
though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
Remembrance Day (Australia, Canada, United Kingdom), also known as Poppy Day (Malta and South Africa), Veterans Day (United States), and Armistice Day (France, New Zealand, and many other Commonwealth countries; and the original name of the day internationally) is a day to commemorate the sacrifice of veterans and civilians in World War I, World War II, and other wars.
It is observed on 11 November to recall the end of World War I on that date in 1918.
The observance is specifically dedicated to members of the armed forces who were killed during war, and was created by King George V on 7 November 1919 (possibly upon the suggestion of Edward George Honey to Wellesley Tudor Pole, who established two ceremonial periods of remembrance based on events in 1917).
I have been an active member of our Royal Canadian Legion for over 20 years and am loving every minute of it.
Not that it is important Just that it is hard to get anyone interested anymore in Volunteering for anything these days
Thought since this will be fast approaching I should post it.
We will be absent most of the Day as I am Sargent at Arms and hubby is President. I have to lead the Branch in the march to the Cenotaph
Includes supper So thought you should know I will be absent
We WILL Remember Them

I am so glad you posted this, Wendy. Thank you for reminding everyone.
"They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning
We will remember them.
Lest we forget."

I agree but sure is a shame that more people won;t get involved
Seems it is always the same doing everything
If we could only get more young ones interested

On behalf of all the Veteran's out there, Thank you. Over the years it's not just those who have died in battle that are honored but all the Veterans that have served their country. Not just those who serve in war but those who also served in peacetime standing ready just in case we were needed. On behalf of us all, Thank you. from this proud US Army veteran!

You'd think having a day devoted to remembering our fallen soldiers would prevent future wars. I really wish our governments wouldn't forget the price we pay.

Hi Wendy,
Have topped this - we should always remember, and try not to
let it happen again.
