What's Your Pet Hate?

Recently, I was doing some gardening in my front yard, getting rid of a few weeds.

Just inside the fence, placed very neatly behind a plant, was a plastic and cardboard
wrapper from a car spare part, plus the old part, a radiator hose.   Lying just outside
the fence was a screwdriver packet.

Seems someone had had car problems, and instead of taking their rubbish home,
decided that MY home was the place to leave it.

Littering is one of my pet hates.    All sorts of bits of paper and plastic bags blow
into the garden on windy days.   Sometimes I find cans and bottles thrown in by
passersby.    I've even found a hypodermic syringe just outside my gate.

Often when driving in the country, the roadside is littered with cans, cigarette
packets, bottles, used nappies, etc.  You name it, it's probably there.   People
even take their garbage bags and leave them by the side of the road.

I hate this!     Why can't people clean up after themselves?     What do their
homes look like?     Can't they use their own rubbish bins, or recycle bins?
After a trip to the bush, we take our rubbish home, and recycle as much as
possible.

With the current trend to throw-away everything, this litter problem is only going
to get worse.      Why can't we have items that last, or are re-usable?   Am I
just an old reactionary?  :-)   Don't answer that!

I appreciate the way one chainstore nearby has solved the
plastic bag problem.      You have the option of getting a cardboard box from a
bin near the checkout, carrying your goods without a bag, or actually paying for
the plastic carrier.      Most people don't get bags, needless to say, or take their
own recyclable cloth bags.

Anyway, that's one of my pet hates, litter.    Do you have one?   What's yours?
