Whats up with this world and the way domestic violence is looked at?

Why doesnt the law take this as a serious matter?

So many women die and get beat on a daily basis only to get critisized.
People look and talk behind thier backs and to thier face tell them how stupid they are. You have to have been in or be in the situation to know the traumatizing effects it takes on a person (male or female). The police always tell you to press charges and blah blah blah knowing nothing will get done.
I have a psycho maniac on my hands and the police overlook me. Then they wonder why women die and then the men die because the womens family comes after them. Why is it that a battered women is stupid?
How can a man with a criminal record the size of a phonebook get away with beating on a women? and most importantly, why the hell are there restraing orders when they really dont mean nothing except you have spousal or sex souse issued? I dont know but im so frustrated. A man can get 15 yrs in prison for selling drugs but if a man beats a women or tries to kill her he gets a ticket?????
