All over the world 10th of October is observed as the mental health awareness day. On this day special programs are evolved to make people aware about mental health matters and it is also tried to enhance the understanding of the peoples about those persons who are suffering from mental problems.

This mental health awareness day is presently observed in more than one hundred countries with various kinds of activities and programs so as to increase the awareness of the people about mental health and the Unite Nations also treat this day as a special one. In the ensuing year the primary theme of this day has been focused on the matter of people’s feeling. Individuals can maintain a good mental health if they are encouraged to talk about them. By way of talking one can relieve his or her anxiety or stresses which remains suppressed in their mind. As a result of this they can overcome the problems which they are facing in their mind. All over the world, the estimated figure of mentally ill persons are about twelve percent of the total population of the world which means that one person in every four persons are suffering from some sort of mental problems such as stress to depression.

From a latest study made in the United Kingdom it has been observed stress factor is becoming from bad to worse in the workplace and during the last year almost nine percent of the population resigned from their job owing to this stress factor and about one person in every ten employees have expressed that they are not getting adequate support from their employers. The worldwide recession and economic downturn has also aggravated the situation. Workers have to take more work load than before to keep their job position secured. The cases of absenting from workplace owing to issues of deteriorating mental health are increasing substantially. As a result of this the estimated cost of keeping the mental health awareness program operational it has increased from twenty eight billion dollars to more than one hundred five billion dollars and the figure is about twenty two billion dollar per annum for treating problems of mental health that has to be borne by social care and NHS organizations.

There are various programs for enhancing the mental health awareness and they relates to mental disorders, post natal depression, schizophrenia, stress, legislation, phobias and other types of mental illness. These programmes help to those persons who work as health care individuals for carrying out their jobs effectively.
