Arts & Crafts Around the world - Vol. 2
by Venerina Conti Spa Manager, Writer, Life CoachExhibition No. 7 - John Johnson
the
Arts Exhibition 7
The following artwork was created between 1978 to the present. The media used was acrylics, pen and ink, colored pencils and markers.
Some were created during John's time in the Advertising field as an Art Director and then a Creative Director for various agencies.
About the artist
My background is in the design/advertising field. I started as an artist and gradually moved into the Creative Director for an Advertising Agency. During this growing period I self-taught myself the airbrush. This quickly became my medium of choice because it is used in the advertising field; but also because I could create realistic art. Eventually I mixed the airbrush and pen and ink to give my work a "mixed variety".
Of course, my advertising background is evident in some of my work. Personally I really like the "Old People" series of pen and ink. This art was created by stippling. Stippling is created by simply touching the tip of a pen to the surface; creating a dot. All the work in this series are dots. the only solid lines are when the dots came together.
Please enjoy my art and thanks for viewing

About Me
<!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--> I have lived in the small town of Prosser, Washington for over 19 years
now. I have been fortunate to have traveled throughout the United States,
and especially in Oregon and Washington. The natural diversified beauty
of this part of the country is unsurpassed by any other region, ranging from rugged seacoast, to fertile valleys, snow capped mountain peaks, and high
desert within a distance of less than 200 miles.<!--[endif]-->
I worked for over 35 years in the natural resources and environmental
sciences. I have now retired and spend much of time pursuing my love
of photography and documenting the beautiful landscapes, seascapes,
and natural beauty around what I now call home.

About the artist
Gourds are most often thought of as being used
for crafts, especially birdhouses, and I agree
that is commonly what they are used for. But
many accomplished artists are enjoying them
for a new way to express their art besides on
a flat canvas.
Plenty of my gourd creations are of the craft
variety but I do try to throw in some with
artwork on occasion. Some of my work could be
considered sculpture because I join gourds
and gourd pieces together. Yes, they are
cutesy, (is that a word?), but nonetheless
are sculpture.
Everything I’ve learned has been self taught
from books and magazines, tips from other
gourd artists and crafters, or something that
just popped into my head to try and do.
Working with gourds can be a long journey
if you want to grow your own. It can take a
year or longer from the time they are planted
until the time you can work on them. Then
there is plenty of preparation work to be
done before the creative work can start.
My website http://marthasgourds.com/ has
information on what it takes to work with
gourds as well as my crafted gourds and I
would like to invite you there to see for
yourself.
