With a rich food culture, Rajasthan, the land of Maharajas, is unique in its flavors and aromas. A foodie is definitely not a foodie if he/she has not tasted the food from Rajasthani cuisine. From royal dishes to the common-man food, you can find a wide variety in Rajasthani cuisine. Let us tell you 10 of the most popular foods that every Rajasthani or even non-Rajasthani foodie loves and adores.

1. Laal Maas

As Rajasthan is a place of Rajputs, it has a culture where fiery hot meat curries are popular food choices. The most famous of such non-vegetarian delights is laal maas or red meat curry, usually had with plain rice. This legendary dish has rich mutton cooked in spices, especially a good amount of red chilies.

2. Dal Baati Churma

Rajasthani cuisine is incomplete without the mention of dal baati churma. This signature dish of Rajasthan is mostly prepared in desert areas. While baati is hard bread that is dipped in ghee, it is accompanied by delicious dal. You also have churma, which is a mixture of ground wheat cooked in a generous amount of ghee and jaggery. The entire combination of dal, baati, and churma is heavenly and divine.

3. Gatte Ki Subzi

As Rajasthan is a dry state, people commonly eat stuff made without much use of water. The same is true of gate ki subzi that is prepared using gram flour. Its small dumplings are made and then cooked in a tangy curry of buttermilk and tomatoes, with the addition of interesting spices. It is a must-try replacement of vegetables.

4. Papad Ki Subzi

Similar to gatte ki subzi, Rajasthan is also famous for its roasted papad subzi. It is made by adding broken papad pieces to a mouthwatering yogurt curry. This curry can be best had with rice.

5. Ker Sangri

With bajra rotis, ker sangri is a perfect food combo. This is a side dish/pickle made of a wild berry called ker. This tangy and peppery creation is a must-try from Rajasthani cuisine.

6. Boondo Raita

While raita is had in varied forms in several cuisines, it is a specialty of Rajasthani cuisine to have raita made of boondo and sour yogurt.

7. Raab

Raab is usually made of millet flour. However, some people make it using corn. With buttermilk, the flour is heated, fermented, and then cooked slowly in an earthen pot. It is then consumed as a soup.

8. Rajasthani Kadhi

Even if you have eaten other types of kadhi, you must try Rajasthani kadhi that differs because of its special gram flour dumplings.

9. Churma Laddoo

Churma is not just eaten with dal baati, but is also shaped into delectable laddoos. This sweet completes a Rajasthani platter.

10. Ghewar

Another cherished sweet from Rajasthani cuisine is ghewar made of milk, flour, and sugar syrup. It is a great dessert served during festivals.
