Why we need Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana?

by Randhir Pandey Team Lead - Marketing

Today, sometimes we are surprised to see a rickshaw puller owing a mobile phone but not a ‘pucca house’ for his family. An essential requirement ‘a house’ for a human being is becoming luxury and unaffordable with increasing urbanization. Whereas luxury items like mobile phone, refrigerators, Air Conditioner are getting affordable for the people living at the bottom of the urban pyramid.  Not only the state governments but investors, developers and real estate regulatory firms should take ‘affordable housing’ in India into prime consideration. We know that real-estate sector in India is booming both in value and volume. They should work on adjusting their interest more towards social growth as well.

In-flow of people in urban cities is rising with growing opportunities due to more and more Emergence of IT/ITes sector, which has revolutionized most of this segment and brought in better infrastructure facilities. This has escalated housing demands and also hiked the prices, disabling the lower income group in the urban society to own a house.

Keeping this in view our Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has brought this scheme called ‘ housing for all 2022’ or ‘Pradhan mantri Awas Yojana’ that aims to provide a proper house to each citizen of India by the time our country achieve it 75 years of Independence. ‘Housing for all 2022’ especially focusing on the weaker section or low Income group. A beneficiary family will comprise husband, wife and unmarried children.

Pradhan mantri Awas Yojana  provide the beneficiary family with not only his own pucca house (an all weather dwelling unit) either in his/her name or in the name of any member of his/her family in any part of India.

Under this Housing for All (HFA) scheme the mission seeks to address the housing requirement of urban poor including slum dwellers through following programme verticals:

•“In-situ” Slum Redevelopment using land as Resource – Migration of Slum Dwellers with participation of private stakeholders using land as a resource. Lest of repositioning, a land should either be provided by the agency itself or the agency may join forces with the States/UTs for getting land from State/UT/City.

• Through credit linked subsidy encouragement of Affordable Housing for low income group.

• Collaborating Public & Private sectors to work for PM awas yojana.

• Pradhan mantri Awas Yojana initiate credit linked subsidy, it will be provided on home loans taken by eligible urban poor (EWS/LIG) for acquisition, construction of house.
