Where Eagles, Hawks And Falcons Are

by Mrs Jameelah Ali Arfi MBA . London

 Eagles

Eagles are members of the bird family Accipitridae, and belong to several genera which are not necessarily closely related to each other. Most of the more than sixty species occur in Eurasia and Africa. Outside this area, just eleven species can be found - two species (the Bald Eagle and Golden Eagle) in the United States and Canada, nine species in Central America and South America, and three species in Australia.

Hawks

Hawks are birds of prey, widely distributed and varying greatly in size. They have sharp beaks and strong claws for catching and eating prey.

In Australia and Africa hawks include any of the species in the subfamily Accipitrinae, which comprises the genera Accipiter, Micronisus, Melierax, Urotriorchis and Megatriorchis. The large and widespread Accipiter genus includes goshawks, sparrowhawks, the Sharp-shinned Hawk and others. These are mainly woodland birds with long tails and high visual acuity, hunting by sudden dashes from a concealed perch.

In North America (and other areas) the term includes falcons and small to medium-sized members of the Accipitridae—the family which includes the "true hawks" as well as eagles, kites, harriers and buzzards.

Owls are members of the order Strigiformes and are not hawks.

Falcons

A falcon ( /ˈfɔːlkən/ or /ˈfælkən/) is any species of raptor in the genus Falco. The genus contains 37 species, widely distributed throughout Europe, Asia, and North America.

Adult falcons have thin tapered wings, which enable them to fly at high speed and to change direction rapidly. Fledgling falcons, in their first year of flying, have longer flight feathers which makes their configuration more like that of a general-purpose bird such as a broadwing. This makes it easier to fly while learning the exceptional skills required to be effective hunters as adults.

Eagles

Kingdom: Animalia

Phylum: Chordata

Class: Aves

Order: Accipitriformes

Family: Accipitridae

Eagles are differentiated from other broad-winged birds of prey mainly by their larger size, more powerful build, and heavier head and bill. Most eagles are larger than any other raptors apart from the vultures.

Hawks

Kingdom: Animalia

Phylum: Chordata

Class: Aves

Order: Accipitriformes

Family: Accipitridae

Subfamily: Accipitrinae

They are mainly woodland birds that hunt by sudden dashes from a concealed perch. They usually have long tails and high visual acuity. Hawks are named among the most intelligent birds.

Falcons

Kingdom: Animalia

Phylum: Chordata

Class: Aves

Order: Falconiformes

Family: Falconidae

Genus: Falco

These birds have thin, pointed wings, which allow them to dive at extremely high speeds. Peregrine Falcons, the fastest birds on Earth, are said to have reached stoop speeds of up to 200 mph

How to keep an Eagle or a Hawk or a Falcon as a pet?

Keeping  raptors as eagles, falcons and hawks ( raptors ie birds of prey ) is not joke. Its not allowed in many parts of this world as far as laws of any country is concerned. Be aware that you will *Never* have a "pet" raptor! These birds simply do not domesticate! That is why raptors are usually hooded when they are taken out, with the hood removed right before their hunting flights. These birds Kill! You can train them to tolerate you, but they will never love you or have any affection for you. You can tell the seasoned falconers by their scarred arms and occasional missing finger or eye, which *Will* happen to you if you become a falconer! Raptors are aggressive and violent, and it is illegal for you to try to change that! That's why you are required to hunt the bird regularly so that it never loses its hunting and killing instincts!

How to get a pet hawk to fly to you

However I have seen so many people keeping say an eagle as a pet as I have seen people keeping a lion as a pet. All I can see such things cannot be domesticated. I see all animals in a circus living caged with people including snakes. Best thing is to work in a zoo for a time to serve your instincts to keep wild animals as pets and only after working in a zoo for a year or two handling the animal you want to keep as pets depending upon how the laws of your country, you might end up keeping lions or eagles or snakes as pets with the help of the law enforcement agencies in your country. Let me also tell you that animals like these need a lot of space and money to feed and help them survive so if you are the person always running short of money, thinking on such lines as to keep lions or eagles or elephants or anacondas as pets is certainly not recommended.

See how big is a cage of a falcon here and how well built!
