When to Hire Data Entry Operators

by Global Employees Software Development Company

Data entry is the process of transcribing high volumes of data from one medium to the other and in particular into a computer program. The most transcribed type of data include; handwritten notes, names and addresses, computer codes and information on an excel spreadsheet. In the modern world, there are some careers that technically involve data entry but in some instances, the activity is simply circumstantial. For example, computer programmers frequently need to input data and computer codes in the course of their operations. Any person interested in data entry is advised to take precautions as not all positions advertised are genuine. Most businesses find themselves having to hire data entry operators to simplify business processes.

Job Description and Skills Set.

One of the skills that is important in data entry is that one has to be a good typist. The reason for this is because sometimes professionals in this field are required to transcribe high volumes of data under a limited time period. Most briefcase companies that offer data input opportunities often require a good typist with a high Keystroke per Minute (KPM). The basic consideration in typing is that the activity should be carried out under high levels of accuracy. Despite the fact that different businesses require different typing speed, it is highly unlikely that the speed is not a consideration.

In some instances, data experts are required to transcribed audio files into word or excel format. This means that the person typing is required to enter the data as he listens and ensure that there are minimal pauses. In a field like programming, accuracy is very vital since a wrong entry can jeopardize the entire computer function within a code. When being transcribed into a word document or an excel spreadsheet, typo errors can lead to misinformation and embarrassing errors.

Being able to type information from a medium into a computer program does not require any formal training. This means that any person can type provided that they typing speed is within the accepted levels and the level of precision and accuracy is maintained. However, there are certain fields that require some level of proficiency such as medicine and anatomy. Programming too requires that a person has some programming knowledge and the ability to use specific software and applications required in data entry.

Future Changes

Due to the advances made in the world of information and technology (IT), it there is a lot of automation in several fields that is driving human labour out of the job market. Processes that were previously being conducted manually are now performed by various tech innovations and applications. In relation to data transcription into computer programs, there are software applications that convert data from one medium into the preferred format in a computer. For example, one can scan handwritten notes and use an application to convert the notes into a MS word format. Such changes are expected to affect people whose main role include tying and entering different forms of data into programs. It is therefore safe to assume that at one point in future, businesses will no longer hire data entry operators.
