What are the Types of IP Security Cameras System?

by Carlson Comm Networking

Video surveillance system technology like all image-based-technology is based on light. When light passes through a camera, it goes thru to the image sensors then activates the pixels of the sensor. Each pixel registers an amount of light sees and then creates an image in your camera.

There are varieties of wireless security camera system model which is available that allows users to install video security solutions that fits for any surveillance need. Here are the more common IP security camera system types.

1.        CCD Technology

CCD (Charge coupled Devices) image sensors have been used in cameras for more than 40 years. CCD Technology is important when discussing network security camera system. Specialize in low-light situations that create images that are less noise and their sensors are more sensitive to light. CCD sensors are more expensive and complex thus can use up to 100 times the power a CMOS sensor would use.

2.       CMOS Technology

CMOS (Complementary Metal–Oxide–Semiconductor) are sensors that have a faster readout which allows producing high-resolution images. CMOS sensors are smaller yet easier to integrate into security camera system and uses less power compare their CCD counterparts. Although they were originally developed for use in memory chips for Computers, CMOS technology has been growing rapidly.

3.       Megapixel Sensors

Megapixel sensors contain a million pixels which allow producing extremely vibrant images. But for cost and size reasons the pixels are smaller compare to traditional VGA sensors. This makes the megapixel sensor less sensitive and works better in stable light conditions.

Along with streaming video footage, IP security camera system can includes an additional number of functionalities such as zoom operation, panning, tilting, motion detection, audio and video surveillance system, integration with alarms and other systems, alerts, intelligent analytics, and many more. Using different compression technologies, IP security camera system can also send multiple streams of video, live viewing and archiving.

IP security camera system offer flexible installation, ease of use, higher-quality images, stability, and scalability as new cameras can be added to the network at any time.

Another benefit of PoE technology is it enables easy installation of uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) for video surveillance system applications requiring 24-hour surveillance that will continue even during power outages.

PoE (Power over Ethernet) is a technology that allows LAN enabled devices, such as security camera system and VoIP telephone system to be powered over a Network Cabling services  using standard Ethernet cabling. In the case of an IP-based video surveillance system featuring PoE cameras, each individual camera transmits and receives data via a single Ethernet cable thus eliminating the need for complicated and expensive cabling system that operates along an existing network.

Ethernet allows for flexible camera installation over PoE as security camera system can be placed in areas where power outlets are not available. This means users can actually install the cameras where the AC sockets are. Power is supplied from the data ports that the cameras and other network devices are connected to directly.
