India is among one of the most advanced developing countries, it is said that if the development of India's continues in this pace for the next 20-25 years then India will be among the top developed countries of the world.

Of all the development in India the peak of the development happens in the sectors of the real estate, with different scheme and different development happening in this sector. Taking of the real estate, in the recent 2-3 years India has been developing many housing schemes which are especially meant for the economically weaker sector (EWS) or is generally known as the affordable housing scheme.

Among the affordable housing scheme launched by any development authority or housing board in India one of the most successful affordable housing scheme is that of Samajwadi Awas Yojna affordable housing scheme under the initiative of Uttar Pradesh Government.

Samajwadi Awas Yojna was launched by the Uttar Pradesh Government with the sole aim to meet the needs of medium income group in the state of Uttar Pradesh. The scheme was launched in 2014 taking the oath to construct three lakh houses by 2016. At the launch of the scheme Principal Secretary Housing Sadakant told reporters in Lucknow, that "The cabinet has decided to launch 'Samajwadi Awas Yojna' to benefit medium income group, besides fixing ceiling rates for apartments,"

As per report of the government of Uttar Pradesh the affordable housing scheme under Samajwadi Awas Yojna will be aimed to construct houses which will be affordable by the Middle Income Group (MIG) and the estimated cost of the houses under the scheme was between Rs 15 lakh to Rs 30 lakh and that as a policy it has been decided that land use conversion would be free of cost.

For the scheme the government has also fixed ceiling on per square feet rate of the apartments and also it was decided that ceiling on per square feet rate will not exceed Rs 3,000 square feet in national capital region, Rs 2,800 per square feet in metro and Rs 2,500 in other cities.
