Resume Developer Tips on Including Long Work History in Your Resume

Job seekers are always wondering what the secret is to writing the most effective resume. Well, the answer would actually depend on every job seeker’s situation. We all have different backgrounds, educational levels, and experience. Thus, the way we approach resume writing would naturally differ from one another.

If you are a job hopper, you may not be confident that employers will be impressed by your long list of previous employment. On the other hand, if your resume indicates that you have been in one particular company for quite a long time, you may be thought of someone who is not flexible and experienced enough. So, how are you going to present your own work history as an asset of yours without having to hire a professional resume developer?

1. Indicate your willingness to learn. It is possible that employers will consider your lengthy employment as a sign that perhaps your skills are obsolete. You can prove otherwise by detailing also all the self-studying, training, and formal education that you have been doing. It is, therefore, important that you actually participate in such programs so that you will continuously improve your own skills.

2. Get rid of all the obsolete credentials and skills. In this day and age, there are so many corporate skills that are either in demand or totally outdated already. If you are not sure whether your working skills are still significant, you can just ask around, or look for answers online. Either way, make sure that all the skills and qualifications that you include your resume are relevant.

3. Your different positions should be listed separately. If you have received a couple of promotions during the many years in one company, you have to be proud of them. Your promotions can prove that you are a worthy individual, which then means a higher possibility for you to get hired immediately.

4. Place emphasis on the experiences you have that relate to all your goals. After being in a company for so many years, it is very likely that you have a really long list of career achievements. Although you need to be proud of them, you need to include in your resume only those skills, experiences, and achievements that will be relevant to the company you are applying for. Keep in mind that an effective resume is a great piece for marketing yourself, and not your employment history.
