PC Touch Screen and Multi-touch Technology Now Changing Ways For SCADA System

Touch screen technology has brought in a revolutionary change lately as now we don’t have to struggle with the mouse to select a particular point on the screen and also there is no need to use the keyboard when were are at a teller machine or POS machine. As touch screen is making things easier in various applications, the same is applicable for SCADA system too.

It is noted that the multi-touch screen manipulations using SCADA at PC Touch Screen machines are almost three times faster when it compared to a keyboard input or a pointing device. This can in turn increase the operator efficiency greatly and thereby contribute towards better productivity.

Multi touch over traditional SCADA operations

With its latest touch friendly operating system, Microsoft also added an easy to manipulate gesture Application Programming Interfaces, which offers multi-touch screen functionality and enables certain HMI/SCADA suppliers to directly incorporate it in a seamless, cost-effective manner.

Save cost and space

There are a few people still finding multi-touch screens as a useless gimmick; however, there are some real benefits to point out about this technology. One such area is the ability of multi-touch to become hardware free by eliminating the use of a keyboard and pointing devices. The maintenance cost will be largely reduced this way as keyboards

Keyboards and pointing devices need to be maintained dirt free and also protected from extreme temperatures, vibrations, and chemicals etc. This could be expensive and also takes more space and manual effort to maintain. In contrast to it, the multi-touch screens of a SCADA system only have minimal components, which are much easier to maintain and monitor in industrial environment.

Highly user friendly

Multi-touch technology in HMI systems is based on the projected capacitate platforms which can be used for many years with touch screen devices as smart phones or POS terminals. Multi-touch technology is built using these technologies with its functionality extended to accommodate the new touch features also expected in feature. Adapting multi-touch for SCADA applications can also ensure a higher security, reliability, and safety in industrial environments.

As n case of personal computers, the PC touch screen of industrial multi-touch machines also needed to be protected well to ensure maximum durability. For this, a protective layer of glass or polycarbonate is used, which will safeguard the screen from any damage caused by vibration, scratches, or extreme temperatures.
