With Magic Jack Plus you have two options for getting the device connected.

With the first option you simply plug the device into the USB port on a laptop or PC that is connected to your high speed Internet connection. You then plug your home phone into the jack of the device. If you use this option your computer will need to be on if you wish to make or receive calls. If the computer is off all incoming calls will go to voicemail.

The second option is to connect your Magic Jack is to plug the device into your wall power outlet. First, insert your home phone in the jack of the device. Next plug in an internet connected Ethernet cable into the other jack of your device which will be labeled “internet”. Finally insert your device into the included MagicJack USB power adapter. The power adapter will then be plugged into your wall. You can shut your computer down and still make and receive phone calls. *Note: During the initial registration, you still need to connect your device to a computer like in the first option.

The software for the device will enable you to access the program from the computer it is connected to or from any computer on the network. Once you launch the Magic Jack program you will be prompted to register your device, choose a phone number and make a test call. You get to select the phone number you want from a pool based on the area code you choose. This makes it easy to get a number that you can remember. You can also choose to keep your original phone number that you had with your local phone service provider.

The first time you use your Magic Jack you will want to play with some of the features and make sure that you understand how it all works. The voicemail will need to be set up. You can record your own outgoing message or choose an automated message. You can also select a different message for calls that come through call waiting while you are on the phone
