How Aerated Concrete Is Made

Autoclaved aerated concrete has been a staple in European construction for decades. The material is favored by Europeans for its durability, fire resistance, light weight, low cost and resistance to termite damage. The United States has been a little slow in jumping on the aerated concrete wagon; only recently has it gained popularity as a construction material. The manufacturing process for AAC block production line is much more environmentally friendly than other building materials, so expect to see it in the United States in the future.


Aerated concrete is made by mixing cement, silica sand, water and aluminum paste into a molding chamber. The chemical reaction causes tiny hydrogen bubbles to develop, causing the cement mix to expand up to five times its original volume without sacrificing strength. After the hydrogen bubbles expand the product, the concrete must be allowed to set, very similar to traditional concrete blocks.


The Autoclaved Aerated Concrete Block Plant are then pressurized by an autoclave to cut them to their desired shapes. The blocks are distributed to building suppliers and contractors by the order. Custom aerated blocks can be requested for a specific size or shape, depending on the application for which it is needed. Aerated concrete blocks can be used for exterior walls, interior walls, ceilings and roofs, as well as for many other applications.
