Before reaching your plate food goes through many stages. Foods are transported, processed and distributed and this has direct impact on food safety, food access and food security. Food processing systems help convert raw food ingredients into processed food so that it can be made more useful for humans as well as animals. There are many food processing methods that are used at home for years. Some of them are baking, deep frying, boiling, grilling, steaming and mixing. Fermentation, pasteurization, packaging and some more are also included in the list.

With the advancement of science and technology and with the introduction of various new and improved food processing machinery systems, many different ways of food processing is also being followed. There was a time when humans controlled and managed everything on their own. Today, there are machines that work completely on electricity or even controlled by computers. There are many industries that make use of these systems and machinery so that their end product is safe and meets all standards set by the food authority department of the country.

Any technique that requires bulk production cannot be possible without opting for suitable food processing systems. The machinery and the process not only make food safe and good to consume, but also easy and fast for the businessperson as well. Although today we have lot of machinery that supports the processing of food, some of the methods can be traced back to even prehistoric times. The new and developed food process machinery has helped to improve the quality of processed food to a great extent.

One of the most remarkable benefits of processed food is that it helps provide quick and nutritious meal options for families that live a busy lifestyle. The food processing systems remove toxins, preserves, make task of marketing and distributing of food items easy and help increase the consistency of the food as well. Delicate and perishable food items can be transported to long distances only with the help of proper processing system. Processed food is less susceptible for early spoilage and so they can be taken on long voyages without any problem.

Processing reduces possibilities of food borne diseases. It helps add variety to modern diet and helps increase the taste of the food item significantly. The only thing is that processing can reduce the actual nutritional density of the food to some extent. There are certain ingredients like Vitamin C that get destroyed by heating and so canned food have lower content of this vitamin.
